To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. BOYD, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Carlisle, in the county of Gumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 1n Curtam-Poles, of which the following is a I specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to curtain poles, and the objects of my invention are to provide positive and reliable means for connecting curtains to a pole without the use of rings or pins, and to furnish a fastening device that can be easily and quickly placed in engagement with a curtain and pole without injuring or tearing the curtains.
Other objects of my invention are to accomplish the above results by a curtain pole that is simple and durable, the pole being made of light wood that can be finished to harmonize with the structure in connection with which the pole is used.
WVith the above and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts 'to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing forming part of this specification, wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a curtain pole as applied to a window frame. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of a portion of the pole. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of the same, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a portion of the pole.
In the accompanying drawings the reference numeral 1 denotes a wooden pole rectangular in cross section and adapted to have the ends thereof supported by brackets 2 secured to a window frame 3. The pole 1 is provided with two sets of vertical openings 4, the openings of each set being equally spaced apart and each opening rectangular in plan.
Curtains 5 are connected to the pole 1 by clasps, each clasp comprising two members 6 gradually tapering from the lower ends of sald members to the upper ends thereof.
The lower ends are normally held together or in engagement with the upper end of ourtains 5 by a coiled spring 7 arranged between said members, said members having the confronting faces thereof provided with transverse grooves 8 to provide clearance for the spring. One end of the spring is bent downwardly to engage the outer side of one member and the opposite end of the spring bent downwardly to engage the outer side of the other member. Extending through the convolutions of the spring is a staple 9 having the ends thereof bent, as at 10 to engage in the under side of the pole, the said staple serving as a fulcrum for the members. he upper ends of the members 6 are adapted to extend through the openings 4 and above the curtain pole, whereby they can be easily gripped and moved toward each other to release a curtain frictionally held between the lower ends of said members.
The members are preferably made of wood, and while in the drawings there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that the structural elements thereof can be varied or changed without departing from the scope of the appended claim.

The combination with a curtain pole having a plurality of vertical openings formed therein, of clasps adapted to extend through said openings and support curtains, each 0 asp comprising members having the upper ends thereof extending through said openings, a coiled spring interposed between said members and having the ends thereof bent to engage the outer sides of said members and normally hold the lower ends thereof together, and a staple adapted to extend through the convolutions of said spring and have the ends thereof mounted in the under side of said curtain pole.
