VICTOR L. LITTIG, OF DAVENPORT, IOWA.
TROUSERS-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 12, 1910.
Application filed March 23, 1910. Serial No. 551,190.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VICTOR L. Lrr'rro, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Davenport, in the county of Scott and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers- Hangers, of which the following is a full and clear specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved device; Fig. 2 a similar view showing the manner in which it is removed from the supporting pole or peg; Fig. 3 a side elevation showing the manner in which the device may be suspended in a wardrobe or closet when not in use; Fig. 4 a side elevation showing the manner in which it is adapted to be suspended upon a single peg or separate pegs; and Figs. 5, 6 and 7 views similar to Figs. 1, 3 and 4 showing a modified form of the pole engaging hook.
The object of this invention is to adapt the hanger for use in connection either with a horizontal pole on which a number of the devices may be suspended or for use on one or more nails or hooks in a closet or wardrobe, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing a designates the trousers supporting bar which has attached to each end an open flexible endless loop 6. Connecting the free ends of these loops 5 is a pair of eyes 0, 0 formed on the lower end of a hook d which is adapted to engage over a rod, this hook 0? being open for that purpose at one side. The hook d and the eyes a, c are desirably formed by bending into 7 The eye 0 is closed while the eye 0 is open so that the loop which engages therewith may be readily detached therefrom. This eye 0 is formed by bending upwardly and around the extremity of the wire, the end of the wire pointing upwardly so as to form a throatlike opening between it and the main portion or depending stem of the hook d. It will be observed that this hook or eye 0 is on the same side as the mouth or throat of the hook d, whereby when the hook d is tilted to one side to detach it from the pole, as shown in Fig. 2, the loop I) will be prevented from slipping out of the hook 0, while at the same time the loop 6 may be readily lifted off or out of the hook a when it is desired to remove the trousers from the -ward the opposite loop or stick or bar a or to permit the bar to hang down vertically as shown in Fig. 3, where it will be out of the way when not in use.
It will be observed that several pairs of trousers may be hung in a folded condition upon the rod a and that any one or all of them may be readily removed therefrom by simply detaching the loop I) from the hook c, whereupon the bar may be allowed to swing downwardly to a vertical position, when the trousers will be left in the hand or on the arm of the operator. Where a pole is inconvenient, the loops Z) may be hung directly over hooks or nails, after the loop I) is detached from the open eye 0', as shown in Fig. 4, and as shown in dotted lines in this same figure the loops are made long enoughto overlap each other at their ends so that the device may be hung upon a single nail or hook, the hook at being allowed to slide down on one of the loops 1) out of the way. The loops Z) are preferably of a flexible material and are preferably open their full length, and furthermore it is essential that they be of the same length.
In the figure shown on Sheet 2 the open eye 0 is slightly modified, this hook or eye being on the side opposite the open side of the hook cl and having its throat open toeye 0. In this form of device, the extremity of the wire crosses the adjacent side of the closed eye 0 and preferably rests resiliently against it, so that the loop I) may be readily slipped out of the eye 0 off the end of the wire.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a trousers hanger, a bar, a flexible suspending loop connected to each end thereof, an open pole engaging loop having a pair of eyes on its depending end one of the eyes being open and the other closed and one of said loops being engaged in one of these eyes and the other loop in the other eye, for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses this 21st day of March, 1910.
VICTOR L. LITTIG.
