Application filed November 4, 969. Serial Hu. 526,1'84.
wrench; Fig. 2 a frontwiew thereof. and f Fig. 3 :i longitudinal section of a niodiica tion.
The handle i0 of the tool is slotted at its upper end to form a pair of paraliol cheeks 11. At one. of their ends, these cheeks are pointed to form integral pawls 1, and in proximity to such pawls, there extends through the cheeks, a bolt. b, which traverses the slot 12 intermediate the cheeks. into this slm' extend the two endsY of n nov'- shaped ilexilile hand lf3. Sach ends being provided with end-pieres 14. l5, 1:curf:d to cheeks l1 hy pins s, s. Band 13 encompasses` a rotatable head @having a hexagonal oye which is adapted to engage lthe nut. holt- Head ./1. j
head or other article to he turned. is provided with a pau' of fide flanges o1 rims (l, whit-li flank the hand and are fn pawls Ono end of band is adjustabiy secured to-ohoelis l1, so that lho hand adapted to engage heads u, ol lith-reni dianivtvrs. vided with a Niles of spaced apgi'tm'os o,
inln whivh piu s. is adapted to be inwi'ttd, I
a iair nl' rails f, on clim-lts li, serving as guides for properly aliinng the apxrlm'wl end of end-piiee -'r with any one of :xpm-- tures o.
lf the handle is lurnwl in this lii'wslion of the arrow, Fig. l, hand 1:; ill he hunt around pin 7 wliioli lliiis-voii liuauf an abutment and muws the operativ.' length 0f the bund to he shortunvd, so that it will -rnily head a..
At the same time,
parvis Ic, wi oueratively engage teeth z, so
that. a tight hold of the tool, on head a, is
obtained, und the latter will ce positively rotated. Ii the handle is turned in the other direction, band i3 will become disengaged from abutment i), so that the band is siaclrened, while pawls L, will simultaneously release teeth z.
TWith the construction shown in Fig. 3, the Wrench is made adjustable, so that it can be set to turn head a, by being swung either to the right or to the left.. Here the tool is provided with a slide 16, having a pair of abonne-nts o', .791', and duplex pawls n, fn', at opposite ends. The teeth on head a, may either be made of a shape adapted t.) receivepawls n and also pawls 1e', or the teeth an diamutrically opposite sides of flange d, may be opposed to eaoh other. By moving slide 16, either to the right or left, either abutment. o', together with teeth n, or abutment 7a2, together with teeth n', will gras head a, as the tool is swung forward, as wi 'De readily understood. As shown in Fig. 3, both ends of band 13 may be adjusta'biy secured to cheeks ll, if desired.
We claim:
'1. wrench, :rising n handle haing a fixed pawl an anl abutment, a. head having a toothed rim adapted' to be engaged 1hr pani. and a band which isecured t0 .lo handle and encompasses the head, said hand being adapted to operatively engage the alifitiiient.
1, reni-li. Comprising' a Slotted handle havin.;r a pair of fixed pawls and an abutnivnt {taxeren-:gj the handle-slot, a head having a mit nl' toothed rims adapted to he onraged ln' the iiaivls. and a hand which is semina-il to the l .ille and encompasses the lit-ail, said hand living)i adapted t0 operatively engage tho abutment.
I. niwiivli. ooniprising a handle having :i lixml inurl and :in almlincnt, a. head having a tmilhvd rini adapted to he engagmlby the inurl. a hand which encompasses the hvad'and is adapted to operativelv engage the abutment, means for adjustahly Seann ing the '03nd to che handle, and means for band bvng anpted to opera'flvely engage guiding the-band during such adjustment.
4. A wrench, wmpnszng a hande, n shdc engagmg ne sume and having a pau of xed g 5 pawls and a pan of abuiments, a head huw mg toothed runs adapted to be engaged by the awls, and a band winch is securei to i the ande and encompasses the head, sald l eiinr one of the abutmenfs.
