To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK E. CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Independence, in the county of Montgomery and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cigar-Holders for Hats, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in cigar holders for hats, the object being to provide a holder which is exceedingly simple and cheap in construction and one which can be quickly attached to the inside of a hat without any danger of injuring the same in any way.

Another object of my invention is to provide a holder which is so constructed that when the same is secured in position in a hat the cigars will be firmly held above the top of the head in such a manner that all danger of the same becoming broken is prevented.

A further object of my invention is to provide a holder which is exceedingly light in construction and one which can be manufactured and sold cheaply in such a condition that the same can be readily secured to a hat by simply moistening the gummed surface of the same.

Still another object of my invention is to provide a holder having a plurality of flexible bands, said bands being secured to the holder by a string running longitudinally through the same.

With these objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which: I

Figure 1 is an inverted plan view of a hat showing the application of my improved invention. Fig. 2 is a detail section through a portion of the hat and holder. Fig. 3 is a detail section taken at right angles to that of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a detail plan view.

In carrying out my improved invention, I employ a strip of felt A of any suitable size having a plurality of spaced openings A formed therein in longitudinal alinement through each of which is adapted to be passed a rubber band B forming a holder for a cigar, said bands being secured to the strip of felt A by a cord 0 passing longitudinally through the inner loops of the bands and in the drawing I have shown a double cord used but it is of course understood that a single cord can be used with the same result. By using a double cord the loop is held open to a certain extent in order that the cigar can be readily placed in the bands B in the position shown in Fig. 1.

The cord is secured to the inner face of the strip of felt A by glue or any suitable adhesive material and arranged over the inner face of the strip is a backing strip D formed of any suitable material which is provided with a gummed outer face E so that it is only necessary to moisten the same in order to secure the holder to a hat as clearly shown in Fig. l, and it will be seen that by this construction the holder can be readily attached in any position desired within the hat for holding the cigars.

In placing the cigars in the holder they are passed through the bands B and twisted so as to bring the same into the position shown in Fig. 1 and it will be seen that the cigar will be firmly held in the holder without any danger of it accidentally becoming detached and at the same time without in: juring the cigar in any way.

From the foregoing description, it will be seen that I have provided a cigar holder for hats which is provided with a plurality of flexible bands, each band forming means for holding a cigar in such a manner that all danger of the cigar working loose is prevented. It will also be seen that I have provided a holder which can be manufactured and sold or used as an advertising medium which can be attached by simply moistening the gummed surface of the backing strip and pressing the same against the inner face of a hat.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

As a new article of manufacture, a cigar holder comprising a strip of felt having a plurality of openings in longitudinal alinement, flexible bands arranged in said openings and secured therein by a longitudinal cord passing through the loops of said bands on the under side of said strip, and a backing strip secured over said under side of said felt strip having a gummed outer surface for securing the same to a hat.
