UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JESSE B. EISEIVIAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO MAN- HATTANBRAID COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
HOLDER FOR DARNING-SILK.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JESSE B. EISEMAN, a citizen or' the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Darning-Silk; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to holders for darning silk and the like, and has for an object to provide two strips of sheet material, paper, leather or the like, adapted to hold a skein ot' darning silk with a portion of the same in view and with the ends exposed for pulling a skein thread.
A further object of the invention is to provide two sheets of material between which a skein of darning silk is secured to prevent snarling of the thread and soiling the skein.
IV ith these and other objects in view, the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a view in plan of the completed device. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal, sectional view of the assembled device taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view in plan of the back card against which the skein is secured. Fig. 4L is a view ot' the skein employed.
Like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The skein shown as a whole at 10 is the i usual and ordinary skein of multi-colored silks ordinarily upon the market employed for darning purposes. To hold the silks a Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 553,978.
card or back 11 is employed provided with two slots 12 and 13. The skein is laid upon the back as shown in section at Fig. 2 and inserted through the two slots 12 and 13. A front or cover member 15 provided with slots 16 and 17 is then placed upon the back with the end of the skein drawn through such slots 16 and 17 with the loose or unbraided ends 18 extending downwardly beyond the end of the cover member. The cover is secured to the back in any approved manner but preferably by means of paste or glue indicated at 19 upon the back in Fig. 3.
Vhile the form of the back and cover is shown as that of a glove for the sake of novelty, it is to be understood that such shape is not material to the presentJ invention.
lWhat I claim is 1. The combination with a skein, of a back having slots through which one end of the skein is inserted, a cover through which the other end of the skein is inserted, means securing the cover to the back with the skein interposed and permit the end of the skein to extend beyond the end of the united cover and back.
2. The combination of a skein, of an elongated back having adjacent transverse slots through which one end of the skein is insei-ted, a. cover member having spaced slots through which the opposite ends of the skein is inserted with the skein interposed between the cover and back and wit-h the end of the skein extending beyond the end of the united cover and back.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JESSE B. EISEMAN.
Witnesses MAE B. SCHAAF, HUGO Mook.
