Description

J. H. DANVER.
LAVATORY.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 22, 1909.
Patented June 28, 1910.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES H. DANVER, 0F BEAVER, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO UNITED STATES SANI- TARY MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORA- TION OF PENNSYLVANIA.
LAVATORY.
1'0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES H. DANVER, of Beaver, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lavatories, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved lavatory; Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section on the line IIII of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of the holding bolt.
My invention relates to the class of lava tories, and is designed to provide a simple and improved device of this character wherein the overflow to the waste pipe is combined with a soap dish.
It is further designed to arrange a holder for the overflow strainer so that it may becombined with the chain stay, or act as the chain stay.
In the drawings, 2 represents a lavatory, which may be of any ordinary form, and may be of enameled iron or other desirable material. As shown, this lavatory has anoverflow channel 3 molded integrally therewith and which extends under the rear portion and beneath a portion of the bottom. The lower end of this overflow channel is provided with a hole, shown at 4, for attachment of the waste pipe, this hole being preferably underneath the hole for the basin 5, which may be provided with the usual stopper 6.
The rear portion of the lavatory ledge 7 is provided with depression 8, which is preferably formed integrally with the lavatory proper, the front edge of this depression being raised slightly as shown at 9. This depression contains a removable strainer 10, which is preferably of metal, though any desirable material may be used. Such strainer is perferably held in place by a bent bolt 11 having a countersunk head 12 seated within a corresponding hole in the front portion of the strainer while the Specification of Letters Patent.

Patented June 28, 1910. Serial No. 568,988.
threaded front portion of the bolt extends through a hole in the rear wall of the bowl 5 just below the raised portion 9. The chain stay 13, in the form shown, is provided with a screw-threaded hole to screw upon the threaded end of the bent bolt.
The advantages of my invention result from the combined overflow and soap dish; and further, from the connection between the strainer and the chain stay, which gives a simple and effective construction. Moreover, my construction gives easy access to the overflow chamber for enameling the same. The strainer is also easily removable by unscrewing the chain stay.
Changes may be made in the form and arrangement of the parts without departing from my invention, since WVhat I claim is l. A lavatory having an overflow chamber and a recess forming an overflow passage communicating with said chamber, a strainer forming the bottom of the recess, and a bent bolt passing through the strainer with its head engaging the same, the other end of the bolt passing out through the front wall of the overflow chamber to the bowl, and having a detachable securing device, substantially as described.
2. A lavatory having an overflow chamber and a recess forming an overflow passage communicating with said chamber, a strainer forming the bottom of the recess, and a bent bolt passing through the strainer with its head engaging the same, the other end of the bolt passing out through the front wall of the overflow chamber to the bowl, and a chain stay detachably secured to the end of the bolt and forming a securing means therefor, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
JAMES H. DANVER.
