HENRY S. PERRY, OF PLATTSMO'UTI-I, NEBRASKA, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF TO GEORGE E. PERRY, 0F PLATTSMOUTH, NEBRASKA.
FENCE-POST.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY S. PERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plattsmouth, in the county of Cass and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fence-Posts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to metallic fenceposts, and the objects thereof are to provide an improved fence-post which is simple and durable in construction; to provide a fencepost which will permit the mounting thereon of wires at any desired height; and to provide a fence-post, the component parts of which, will require no special machine work in their formation, but can always be procured from standard stock and assembled with facility.
To the accomplishment of the recited objects, and others coordinate therewith, the preferred embodiment of my invention resides in that construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and embraced within the scope of the appended claims.
In said drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the fence post embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the rear of the upper portions of the angle-irons, one of the latter being broken away to more clearly show the fastening means.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Referring more particularly to the drawings for a detail description of my invention, the numerals 1 and 2 designate a pair of parallel spaced uprights formed of angleiron with their lower extremities securely anchored in the base 3, which may be constructed of concrete or any other suitable material. These uprights are connected and reinforced at intervals by the double-headed rivets 4, as will be found upon inspection of Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings. In conjunction with said rivets as a means for sustaining the wires 5, I employ a plurality of staples 6, each of which is passed over a wire Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 25, 1909.

Serial No. 524,375.
and then over the corresponding rivet 4:, whereupon the ends of the staple are reversely bent about the rear portions of the respective angle-irons. The foregoing arrangement and construction is exhibited in Fig. 3 of the drawings. It will thus be seen that the rivets 4: serve to connect and reinforce the angle-irons, but as a means for preventing upward or downward displacement of the staple; and furthermore the said rivets clearly define the relative positions the different wires shall assume.
It should be understood that in its broader aspects the invention comprehends the employment not only of the various means described, but of equivalent means for performing the recited functions. While the arrangement shown is thought at the present time to be preferable, it is desired to reserve the right to effect such modifications and variations thereof as may come fairly within the scope of the appended claims.
That is claimed, is
1. A metal fence-post comprising a base, a pair of spaced parallel uprights formed of angle-iron and having rearwardly projecting portions, connecting means for said uprights, and wire supporting staples arranged intermediate the uprights and staddling the said connecting means, the shanks of each staple being reversely bent about the edges of the rearwardly projecting portions of the uprights.
2. A metal fence-post comprising a base, a pair of spaced parallel uprights formed of angle-iron and having rearwardly projecting portions, spaced rivets extending transversely through and connecting said uprights, and wire supporting staples arranged intermediate the uprights and straddling the said rivets, the shanks of each staple being reversely bent about the edges of the rearwardly projecting portions of the uprights.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY S. PERRY. Witnesses D. O. DWYER, Bnssm SHEA.
