COLTER-FASTENING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 28, 1910.
Application filed September 25, 1909. Serial No. 519,521.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES W. I-Im'r'r, citizen of the United States, residin at Bono, in the county of Craighead an State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Golter-Fastenings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for securing colters in place on plows and particularly refers to bracing means.
One of the objects of the invention is the provision of a plow with a colter fastening device which will securely hold a colter in position against all working conditions.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevationof a plow, with parts thereof broken away. Fig. 1 is a detail perspective view of a brace plate.
Referring to the drawings illustrating the invention 1 denotes a plow beam which is suitably connected to a standard 2. The beam 1 is provided with a longitudinal slot for the reception of a colter 3, which consists of a blade having a knife edge thereon. The beam 1 is provided with a top brace plate 4:, which is formed flat, and which is formed with openings through which the colter 3 and the tie bolts or rods are passed. The beam is also provided with a brace plate 5, the lower end of which is rearwardly curved and which is bifurcated to engage with the forward side of the knife or colter 3.
A brace 6 is secured to the beam 1, being passed through the same and screwed at its upper end against the top plate 4. This brace is formed with a loop 7 for the colter 2, and the lower end of the brace is curved to snugly fit a ainst the brace plate 5 and so that the l0op 7 will engage the colter 3 at right angles to the same.
An angular rod 8 connects the standard 2 to the beam 1, the rear end of said rod being passed through said standard and the forward end thereof being connected to the beam by means of a vertical bolt 9. A second tie rod 10 is connected to the beam by the bolt 9 and its lower end is connected to the standard, through which it is passed. The standard 2 carries the usual plow share 11.
By means of the fastening device the colter is securely held on the plow beam 1 against all movement except a slight forward movement of the upper end.
Having described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent In combination with a plow beam, a guide plate secured to the upper side of the beam, a colter movable onthe beam and the plate, a guide plate having its lower end curved rearwardly to engage the shank of the colter positioned against the lower side of the beam, a rod having its lower end formed into a loop embracing the colter shank and curved to engage the curved portion of the lower guide plate, and means for fastening the upper end of the rod to the beam.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES W. HIETT.
