OSCAR MEISTER, OF BALDWIN, GEORGIA.
PLDW ATTACH WI ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 729,198, dated May 26, 1903.
Application filed March 2, 1903.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR MEISTER, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Baldwin, county of Habersham, State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow Attachments, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of an ordinary shovel-plow provided with my attachment. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken through the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
The object of this invention is to provide the ordinary one-horse shovel-plow with a root-cutting attachment which shall be simple, inexpensive, and effective in operation, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
Referring to the drawings, 60 designates the p1ow-beam,and b the usual plow-stock, bolted thereto and curved downward and forward and provided at its lower end with the usual plow-shovel c.
The cutter consists of a long blade d, sharpened along its front edge and tapering to a point at its lower end. This cutter is bolted to the left-hand side of the plow-beam and extends down along the stock I), having a Serial No. 145,727. (No model.)
flanged plate 9 to the rear edge of the stock. This bolt fand the bolt h,which passes through the upper end of the blade 01 and enters the beam, are the only points of attachment of the cutter. The lower end of the cutter extends down upon the face of the plow-blade and rests thereon its full length, the cutter being notched at v in order that this downward extension of the cutter may bear firmly against the face of the plow-blade.
It will be observed that my cutting attachment is extremely simple, inexpensive, and may be attached to any of the common forms of shovel-plows now on the market without changing the construction thereof in the least or mutilating the plow shovel or blade. The bracket 6, with its extension e, holds the cutter from lateral vibration or displacement and clamps it down upon the face of the shovel and the stock,-thereby insuring strength and steadiness.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with a plow having the beam and stock and shovel or blade, of a rootcutting attachment consisting of a blade bolted to the side of the beam and extending down in front of the standard and over upon the face of the shovel and provided witha lateral ear or bracket at a point above the shovel, and means for detachably clamping this bracket portion to the stock.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses, this 27th day of February, 1903.
, OSCAR MEISTER.
