HEATING STOVE. APPLICATION FILED'JULY 1, 1909.

ANDREW a. GRAHAM cov, PHOTO-LWHDGRAF'NE'RS. WASHINGTON. n. l:v
WILLIAM HEUERMANN, OF SEDALIA, MISSOURI.
HEATING-STOVE.
Application filed July 1, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM I-IEUERMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sedalia, in the county of Pettis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heating-Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in heating stoves of the magazine type; and one object is to provide improved means for preventing smoke and gases from issuing into the room where the stove is located when the magazine cover is open for the purpose of filling the magazine with fuel.
Another object is the particular arrangement of flues whereby all the smoke and gases which arise from the combustion chamber are utilized in heating the room.
Still another object is the improved means for checking the fire and preventing the products of combustion from entering the room in which the stove is located.
With the above stated and other objects in view the invention consists in a number of novel features of construction and combination of parts, the essential features of which are recited in the claims forming a part of the s ecification, and a convenient embodiment of which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which like figures and letters refer to like parts in the several views.
Figure 1 shows the stove in front elevation, Fig. 2 is a central vertical section, and Fig. 3 is a section on line 83 Fig. 2.
A is a combustion chamber of any suitable construction preferably cylindrical as shown in Fig. I. Said combustion chamber is provided with. grate bars and ash pan of any well known construction and a suitable door aifording access to the front end thereof. Communicating with the up oer part of the combustion chamber are uel magazines B-B arranged on either side of said chamber and provided with suitable doors b?) which in turn are provided with dampers b Extending upwardly from the front and rear ends of the combustion chamber A are two heating drums CC; conveniently in the form of substantially annular pipes, the lower ends of which communicate with the ends of the combustion chamber A by means of ports 0-0 and the upper ends of which are connected by a pipe C provided intermediate the ends thereof with an elbow adapted to connect Specification of Letters Patent.

to the ordinary smoke flue. The heating drums CC lie alongside of the side walls of the fuel magazines and ports c -c" serve to form a communication between the same and the upper portions of the fuel magazines, said ports offering an escape for the gas in the fuel magazine to the smoke fiue and preventing such gases from entering into the room when the magazines are open. The substantially annular pipes which form the heating drums CC are preferably formed in two sections, the upper section being readily removable in order to facilitate cleaning of the pipes. The upper sections are also preferably provided with openings at the top thereof which are normally closed by plugs which may be readily removed to facilitate cleaning.
A stove of the above construction is very advantageous in that by causing the products of combustion to pass through heating drums of the character heretofore described a very large heat radiating surface is obtained. Interposed between the magazines and the heating drums and situated directly above and communicating with the combustion chamber is a check damper D which is adapted to be used separately or in connection with the check dampers on the, doors of the fuel magazines to furnish a down draft Xiyhich will delay combustion and check the It will be seen that the above described construction is well calculated to fulfil the objects primarily stated. However, it is to be understood that the invention is capable of embodiment in other forms than here shown.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a combustion chamber, a pair of fuel magazines arranged on either side and communicating with said combustion chamber, and a substantially annular pipe communicating with the upper part of said combustion chamber and the upper ends of said fuel magazines.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a combustion chamber, a pair of fuel magazines arranged on either side and communicating with said combustion chamber, a pair of substantially annular pipes communicating with the upper part of said combustion chamber and upper parts of said fuel magazines and a horizontal pipe adapted to connect said annular pipes with the smoke flue.
3. In a device of the class described, the combination of a combustion chamber, a pair of fuel magazines arranged on either side of said combustion chamber and communicating therewith, a pair of substantially annular pipes communicating with the upper part of said combustion chamber and upper parts 10 of said fuel magazines, a horizontal pipe connecting said annular pipes with the smoke flue and a damper for the upper portion of said combustion chamber interposed between said annular pipes and fuel magazines.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature 15 in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM HEUERMANN. Witnesses:
Josnrrr H. BOWRON, THOMAS F. LINVILLE.
