Description

' To all whom it may concern:
and the shanks thereof, combined by right and UNITED STATES' PATENT OEEIGE.
LOBING OOES, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN WRENCH.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 96,203, dated October 26, 1869.
tending transversely to the length of the shanks, and being received in hollow screws formed in the shanks B B. Hence, by turning said screws, the jaws AA of each pair are simultaneously moved toward and from each other.
In order to guide thejaws and prevent lateral movement, one of the shanks, B, is constructed with guides f, which are fitted to slide in openin gs h, formed in the other shank 5 hence these guides prevent lateral movement and lateral strain upon the screws.
Having described a universal fork-wrench embodying my invention in the best form at present devised by me, whatI claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination andarran gement of the vwrench-jaws, shanks thereof, and right and left handed screws extending transversely to the lengths of the shanks, so that both the said jaws and shanks are caused to separate and approach by turning the said screws, as described. I
2. Also, the combination and arrangement of the wrench-jaws, shanks thereof, right and left handed screws, and guide, as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand this 4th day of February, A. D. 1869.
- LORING GOES.
Be it known that I, LORING GOES, of Worcester, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Universal Fork- Wrench; and that the following` is a full, clear, and exact description and specication of my invention. v
My invention consists of two wrench-jaws left handed screws extending transversely to the length of said shanks, so that by turning said screws both the shanks and the jaws carried by them are simultaneously caused to approach or to separate from each other, so as to vary the distance between the jaws, for the purpose of adapting the wrench to bolt-heads of different sizes.
My invention consists, further, of the combination of the said wrench-jaws, shanks, and screws, extending as above stated, with one or more guides, by means of which the' jaws and shanks are preventedi'rom changing their positions laterally relative to each other. l
The fork-wrench represented in said drawings is double-headed, having at each end a pair of jaws, A A.
One jaw-of each pair is formed upon a handle or shank,,and the other jaw of each pair is formed upon a separate handle or shank,B'.
The two jaws are combined by means of two right and left handed screws, C O, each hav ing a milled hub, a, by which it can be readily turned with a right-handed screw, e, at one side of said hub a, and a left-handed screw, g,
