To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES FRANCIS IVALKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stockton, in the county of San Joaquin, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Invalid-Chairs; and,I do declare the followin to be a full, clear, and exact description or the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.

This invention relates to improvements in household or hospital furniture and particularly to invalid chairs, the object of the invention being to produce an invalid chair which in addition to its function as an in valid chair can also be used as a rocking chair, thus giving the invalid a more comfortable chair and permit a rocking motion which will overcome the fatigue and ache oc casioned by sitting in a straight and rigid chair.

A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive and yet effective structure for the purposes as set forth.

These objects I accomplish by means of a platform member mounted on wheels, a chair member having rockers mounted on said platform and springs interposed between said platform and said chair. I also employ such other and further structure and relative arrangement of parts as will more fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claim.

In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

Figure l is a perspective view of the complete chair. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the platform and bottom of the chair, showing the springs interposed therebetween.

Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings 1 designates a platform supported by wheels 2 and having a front foot rest 3.

4t is a chair member provided with side rockers 5, mounted on the platform 1.

Interposed between the platform 1 and the bottom of the chair 4 on each side are two springs 6 spaced apart and bearing on and secured to plates 7 and 8 secured to the platform 1 and the bottom of the chair t respectively.

In practice the rockers 5 permit a rocking motion of the chair 4e on the platform 1. The springs G maintain the equilibrium of the chair and at the same. time gIX Q the same an easy, comfortable motion. The plates 7 and 8 form the necessary bearing and securing surfaces for the said springs.

From the foregoing description it can be readily seen that I have produced a chair which, while having all the necessary functions of an invalid chair, can still be used as an easy, comfortable rocking chair giving the invalid an opportunity to assume comfortable changes of position.

IVhile this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is An invalid chair comprising a horizontally alined platform mounted rigidly on large front wheels, small wheels turnably disposed beneath said platform at the rear thereof, a chair having rockers bearing on said platform, plates on said platform and on said chair, springs interposed between said plates, said rockers bearing the weight of the chair.
