Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 10, 1910.
Serial No. 537,351.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADoLF P. EOKSTROM, acitizen of Sweden, residing at Riverside, in the county of Riverside and State of California, have invented a new and useful Saw- Oiler, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a saw oiler, and the object of the invention is to provide a receptacle for oil in the handle of the saw, and supplying oil from the receptacle to both sides of the saw so that the saw will operate easily without sticking in the wood.
A further object is to provide valve means easily operated by the finger of the operators hand which holds the saw, whereby the delivery of oil from the receptacle to the saw blade may be controlled at will, it thereby being possible to stop the delivery of oil entirely, or to supply it in such quantities and at such times as is desired.

1 designates the handle of the saw to which the blade 2 is secured. The handle 1 is recessed to receive the reservoir 3, the outer plate of which is preferably flush with the handle, as clearly shown in Fig. 3. In the lower end of the reservoir 3 is a valve tube 1 into one end of which projects a delivery pipe 5 having two branches 6 which lie on opposite sides of the saw blade 1 and close thereto, as shown in Fig. A. A wire 7 extends across the reservoir 3, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, and mounted to rock thereon, is a wire 8, the lower end of which carries a tapered valve plug 9 adapted to seat in an orifice in the tube 1. The other end of the wire 8 is formed as a coiled spring 10 which bears against the inner face of the reservoir 3 and acting against the wire 8 normally holds the valve plug 9 closed, preventing oil 11 which is within the reservoir 3 from entering the tube 4:. A button 12 is mounted upon the spring end of the wire 8 and extends through the outer plate 13 of the reservoir 3 closely fitting the plate to prevent leakage of oil,,although as will be seen from Figs. 2 and 3, the oil is below this point when the saw is in operating position and thus would not leak out. A screw plug 14 is provided in the outer plate 13 to permit oil to be introduced into the reservoir 3.
In operation, the valve plug 9 normally prevents oil from entering the tube 4, and at such time, no oil flows from the tubes 6. Upon pressing in the button 12, the wire 8 is tilted, which lifts the valve plug 9 from its seat in the valve tube 4, and permits oil Patented June 14, 1910.
to enter the tube and flow out through the delivery tubes 6 onto the surface of the blade. So long as the valve is held open in this manner, oil will continue to flow onto the blade in the manner described. Upon releasing the button, the spring 12 acts to close the valve, thereby preventing further delivery of oil to the blade. Thus no oil is delivered to the blade except when the button 12 is pushed in, thereby preventing leakage of oil and waste thereof.
What I claim is:
A saw oiler comprising a reservoir adapted to be seated in the handle of the saw, a valve tube in the lower part of the reservoir extending between opposite walls thereof, one wall having an opening at one end of the tube, a delivery pipe projecting into the end of the valve tube and frictionally held therein, said delivery pipe being bifurcated and straddling the rear edge of the saw blade, said valve tube having an orifice in one side wall, a wire 7 within the reservoir and extending across between the walls thereof, a wire 8 within the receptacle pivoted on the wire 7, wire 8 having a valve plug on its lower end normally closing the orifice in the Valve tube, the upper end of wire 8 being formed into a coil spring 10 at right angles thereto and bearing against a wall of the reservoir, a button extending from the upper end of wire 8 through the wall of the reservoir, and a removable filling plug in the reservoir.
