Another object oli this invention is to m'ovide means to so construct and combine the plunger and valve and its operating mechanism whereby the valve operating lever and ball carried thereby can be adjusted to any angular relation with respect to the unter tank so as to provide means tor aligning the valve operating lever and ball with respect to the tank as desired, without bending the lever.
Another object is to provide means tor packing the plunger rod by the use ot an integral resilient or yielding ring shaped washer and affording facilities tor piessing` the washer in close contact with the plunger rod to prevent leakage from the valve.
A Afurther object is toprovide means tor compressing a packing ring which means is also adapted to permit the head or cap upon which the operating mechanism of the valve stem is mounted to be revolved to any predetermined angle with respect to the water closet tank or the like and rigidly hold and tasten the combined head and closure cap at such predetermined angle or position.
Another object is to provide a simpleV means tor constructing a ball cock and its operating mechanism for the purpose intended ot a minimum number ot parts, thereby saving material and labor in the construction of same.
A further object is to provide means for reciprocating a plunger rod and plunger to prevent undue friction or binding eiltect on same, also to provide means for adjusting the downward throw of the trip lever and ball.
These and other objects are attained by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which z- Figure 1 is a vertical section in elevation the casing showing it connected to the stand pipe.
Figure 4 is an elevation ot the casing shown partly in 'section and also showing an end view ot a portion ot the operation mechanism of the plunger and valve.V
The drawings are conventional and show the invention in a conventional manner applied to al conventional stand pipe 1 having a screw threaded end 2. The other end of the stand pipe is connected to a conventional type ot coupling or clamping mechanisn'i (not shown). The upper end ol the stand pipe has its periphery screw threaded to threadably engage a union or cap 8. The union is interiorly screw threaded to e O'eOe `the upper end ot the stand pipe.
An aperture 4 is provided in the central portion ot 41' of the union or cap and a portion 5 ot' the cap is raised surrounding the aperture to provide a valve seat G. rPhe un- `ion .is exteriorly screw threaded to threadably engage the interiorly threaded body or casing 7 at the point indicated by reference numeral S.
The body 7 is bored at 9 and counterbored to a larger diameter at 10 to torni a shoulder 11. A boss 12 is formed on the body and is provided with an interiorly threaded aperture to receive a thumb screw 13. l
A Aclosure cap 14 'tor closing the openirg` in the top of the body is provided and a depending` port-ion 15 is provided thereon to tit the counter-bored portion 10. A groove 1G is formed on the periphery of the depending portion 15 preferably tapered or formed ot' inclined contour in cross section. The closure cap has an aperture formed at 17 in the central portion thereof of small diameter to receive a valve stem.
The depending portion ol the closure cap is counter-bored larger in diameter than the small aperture or opening, to receive a telt or other resilient washer 18 or the like. The depending portion of the cap is bored to a depth that will leave a portiony of the telt washer or the like extending bevond the end (or bottom face) ot the depending portion, y

The closure cap is also provided with a vertical supporting standard 19. A plunger rod 20, having an eye 21 formed on one end and having its opposite end screw threaded at 22 is provided. A plug 23 having an -internal screw threaded aperture is provided to threadably engage the end ofthe plunger rod. The plug 23 has a portion of its periphery threaded as" shown at 24 to threadably engage a combined plunger and valve holder 25 which is internally screw threaded and adapted to engage with the threaded portion oi the periphery of the plug 23.
The combined plunger land valve holder is provided with an aperture 26 and a valve 27 isY fitted within the combinedplunger and valve holder for cooperation with the valve seat (i. vrllhe valve 27 is securely retained and held in position in the combined plunger and valve holder by contact withthe end of the plug 23 when the combined plunger and valve holder is screwed thereon. The valve is held in position under pressure of the combined plunger and valve holder against the end of the plug.
A metallic washer 28 isslidably iitted to the valve stem and is located between the combined plunger and valve holder 25 and the closure cap 14, and is supported on the shoulder 11. The projecting portion ot' the felt washer 18 is-adapted to be forced .in contact with the metallic washer 28. The closure cap 14 is swivelly and yieldingly supported on the metallic washer when the parts are asembled and inserted in the body.
vrllhe `plunger rod 20, the combined plunger and valve holder 25 and valveare operated by the following mechanism:
A bifurcated lever 29 is pivotally attached to the vertical standard 19 ,preferably bya cotter pin 30 or the like. At one end of the bifurcated lever a link 31 is pivotally attached thereto by a lcotterpin 30 or the like. The lower end of the link is preferably bifnrcated and connected to the eye21 of the plunger rod.;20 by a cotter pin 30 or thelike.
lt will be noted that the lever when moving up and down reciprocates the plunger in the portion 9 ofthe body or casing.
lt will also be apparent that-the-link 31 is connected to the bifurcated lever so as to permit it to swing back andforthto aecominodate or align the plunger rodV .with the bearings through which the plungerrod 2O operates, thereby eliminating undue .friction or binding effect thereon. Arboss32 isprovided on the lever 29 and a screwthreaded aperture is provided therein .to receive a screw bv meansof which thedownward throw ot the valve operating lever 34 is "regulated or adiusted. This is accomplished bv adiusting the screw 33 which contacts with the vertical standard 19 and stops the levers downward movement at the predetermined point of adjustment.
The bifurcated lever 29 at its free end is provided with a screw threaded aperture 35 to engage with one end of the valve operating lever 34 and carries a ball 36 or the like. Then the parts are assen'ibled to be inserted in the body portion as shown in,the drawings, the parts are in the first instance supported by the felt or the resilient integral ringshaped washer 18 which issupported on a metallic .washer both washers being fitted to slide over the plunger rod 2O before assembling same for use.
The projecting portion of the felt washer is supported the metallic washer 28. ViThen it is desired to regulate the angular relation of the biturcated lever 29 with respect to the -water closet tank .to a predetermined position in the water tank, the' closure cap 14 is .revolved to the desired angular relation with respect to the tank and is held in the adjusted position by .the manipulation of 'the thumb screw v13, the end of which is tapered and made to engage the tapered wall of thegroove 16 formed in the depending portion 15 of the closure cap, thereby holding the cap in the desiredpredetermined position.
The end of the=thumb screw 13 vis so`- iorined and positioned, that it will engage the lower portion of the inclined wall of the groove 16 and force the closure cap y14.and resilient-washer 18 downward against the metallic washer 28Vor the like compresing the resilient-washer and forcing it'to expand in close Contact with the plunger rod 20, thereby preventing any leakage from the valve vlpast the stein through the closure cap 14.
AThen it is desiredto remove the plunger, its associated parts and the operating mechanisin from the casing7 all that is necessary-to do is to withdraw the end of the thumb screw 13 from its engagement in the groove land all the parts can be removed in their entirety, for any purpose desired and afterwards replaced.
A boss 37 is provided with an aperture therein which communicates with a chamber 38 which surrounds the end of the plunger carrying the valve. It is also provided with an aperture 39 which is used to receive the end of a refill pipe 40. .The pipe 40 can be bent over the `fulcrum 41 to any desired position inthe tank. Then desired to renew the valve, the combined plunger and valve holder is disengaged 'from its threaded connection to .the plug 23 and a new valve placed therein.
It isnot ,intended to `limit the invention to the construction shown in the drawings,y as many alterations or changes of the construction inay he made without -deviating from the principle of the invention.

T. ln a ball oook for water closet tanks, a body portion internally counter bored to form a shoulder, a washer supported on the shoulder, a stand pipe having a valve seat member mounted thereon and secured to the body portion, a closure Cap adapted to be revolved and also having a depending)` counter bored portion, adapted to tit into and olose the upper portion of the body, a resilient ring washer fitted within the Counter bored portion and extending below trie face, a plunger rod slidably aounted in said Closure cap and slidable through said washers, a Combined plunger and valve holder carried by the free end of vthe plunger rod, a valve Carried by said plunger and adapted to Contact with the aforesaid seat n'iem'ber, a standard made integral with said closureeap, a' lever pivotally mounted upon said standard and a link pivotally connected to the plunger rod and pivoted lever, whereby said plunger can be reciproeated, said closure cap and valve and operating mechanism being arranged to permit its removal in its entirely Without disassembling same and means to compress the resilient washer.

In a ball Coeli, a stand pipe, a valve casing connected to said pipe, a valve seat in the casing, a counterbored Closure cap fitted to the easing, a resilient Washer litted Within the Counter bore formed in the Closure Cap and extending below the face thereof, a metallic Washer supported in the casing, means to exert a downward moi/ement on the closure cap to compress the resilient Washer against the metallic Washer, a oombined plunger and valve holder, a valve carried by the plunger, and means to reciprocate the combined plunger and valve holder, said means including a stem extending` through` said Washers and closure cap, as describedand set forth.
9. ln a ball Cook for Water closettanks, a valve easing provided with an interior shoulder, a Washer supported on the shoul der, a counter bored closure Cap having an opening therein for receiving a valve operating rod and litted to the easing, a resilient washer having an opening therein in alinement with the opening in said eapand fitted Within the counter bore of the Closure Cap and adapted to engage the tirst named Washer, so as to yieldingiy support the Closure cap, as and for the purpose deseribedA In testimony whereof I atlix my signature CHARLES HUBBARD BERE 7
