Toall'uom'itmeyconcern: i, Be it known that I, FREDERICK DEN, a citizen of the United States vof-America, and resident of Fort Dodge, Webster county, Iowa, have invented a new and useful School-Desk, of which the following is a. specification.
The object of this invention is to rovide an improved-construction for schoo desks. A further object of this invention is to provide an improved construction fora com- 'bined school desk and seat.
A further object of this invention is to ,provide anv improved construction for` a school desk, seat and book box.
A further object of this invention is to provide a school desk, seat and book box supported over and by a single pedestal;
A further object of this invention is to provide, in a school desk and seat combined, a single pedestal and seat mounted for-oscillation on a vertical axis on said pedestal and also arranged for up and down adjustment, and also arranged for adjustment relative to the desk. V
A further object of this invention -is to provide, Ain a school desk, a seat back susceptible of u) and down adjustment and also susceptible of adjustment horizontally or circuinferentially on an upright axis.
A further object of this invention is to provide in a school desk, a single pedestal and a desk carried thereon, said desk susceptible to up and down adjustment relative to said pedestal, and also susceptible of adjustment of inclination relative to -the floor or surface on which the pedestal is carried.
A further object of this invention is to provide a book box independent of yet associated with thedesk and seat of the school desk, and wholly independent of any adjustment of the desk or seat.

'lhe seat bar 39 extends forwardly from the clamp member 40 and then is curved uplwardly and extends rearwardly parallel wit the body ortion thereof in the form of an arm 45. A'bracket 49 is formed preferably of metal by molding and is provlded'with a slot `50V lengthwise thereof. A bolt 5.1 is mounted' throu h the slot 50 of the bracket 49 and isscate in the pedestal 15. By means of the slot 5,0 and bolt 51 the bracket 49 may be aadjusted altitudinally. Thus provision is made to prevent oscillation ofthe bracket 49 on the bolt 5l. 'lhe bracket 49 is formed with a circular head 54 on its upper end and a circular recess or chamber '55 is formed in the outer face of said head. A bracket or spider 56, preferably is formed of metal by molding and is provided with a circular head 57 meeting the head 54 of the bracket 49. The "recess or chamber 55 is frustum shaped and a conical washer 58 is mounted therein and fitted thereto. A bolt 59 is mounted through the washer 58 centrally of the recess 55 and extends through registering apertures in the iheads' 54 and 57 and a nut 60 is mounted o n the inner end-of said bolt and clampssaid members together. A hand wheell 1s lixed to the outer end portion of the bolt 59 and is employed tok rotate said bolt to tighten or loosen the dli'mp of the conical washer 58 in the recess 5 and to tighten or loosen the clamping relations betweenthe heads 54 and 57. The plate or spider 56 is formed with notches in its lower face -and adjacent the conical washer 58 and a lug 62 is formed on the periphery of said washer and is adapted to engage in one or another ofv said washers. A desk shelf or table 63, preferably made of wood, is mounted on the spider or plate 56 and secured thereto by screws 64. One margin of the table or shelf 63 is adjacent tothe conical washer 58 while the'major ortion of said' desk or shelf extends latera y and forwardly across and beyond thea forward margin of the seat 46. In the practical use of the desk above described the parts are assembled as shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 4, and adjusted as to the height of the seat from the floor, the height of the seat back from the seat, the inlclination of the seat and seat back, the height of the desk from the floor, and the inclination ofthe desk, to lit. the pupil who is to occupy and use such desk. Thereafter-the pupil turns-the seat in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 4 to the extent permitted by the lug 34 in the notch 33, descends upon the seat 4G and then turns in the direction opposite to that indicated by said arrow into any proper position facing the shelf or desk 63.
