Description

'w. VANSCOYOC.
End Gate for Wagons. v I
Patented 19, 1.869.
flaunt @fljline.
WILLIAM VANSGOYOG, OF OXFORD, OHIO.'
Letters Patent No. 96,058, dated- October 19, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN TAIL-BOARD FOR WAG-CNS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM Vmssooroo, of Oxi'ord, Butler County, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tail-Boards for Wagons; and I do hereby declare the following to be a; full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part of this specification.
My invention relates to devices designed to facilitate the unloading of corn, grain, 8m, fi-om wagons by shovelling or otherwise, at the tail-end, and prevent 1 spilling; and
sides when the tail-board is let down, and thus pre-a vent spilling at the sides when the wagon is beingjuploaded.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the tail-end of a wagon embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
A represents an ordinary wagoitbed, and
B, the hinged tail-board of the same.
Four staples, O, are secured to the tail-board, as shown, to which the quarter-circle wings D D are connected.
The hooked ends of the straps or bars (I d, which serve to connect with the staples 0, permit, also, of the wings being at any time disconnected from the tail-board B.
v The tail-board is fitted with the ordinary springs E E and catches F F.
The wings I) D are fitted to slide through the curved guides G G, the ends 9 of which, in connection with the projections d on the bars ll, serve to limit th extent to which the tail=board opens.
It will be seen, that when the tail-board B is open, or let down,-as seen in dotted lines in fig. 2, it forms the inclined bottom' of a chute, of which the wings D D are the sides, and that in this position the wagon can be emptied of its contents by shovelling or otherwise, without danger of spilling at the sides. v
7 When necessary or desirable to remove the wings D D, the guides G G are taken off, by first unscrewing the nuts g, and the wings can then he unhooked from the staples O.
The wings D D may he made of sheet-iron, it preferred, and may be placed inside or outside of the wagon-bed I claim herein as new, and of my invention 1. In connection with a wagon-bed having a hinged tail-board, the quadrantal wings D D, connected to the tail-board for the purpose specified.
2. In the described combination with the quadrantal wings D D and hinged tail-board B, the staples O, l
hooked bars or straps d d',p1'ojections d, and guides G G, arranged and operating substantially in the manner and for the purpose stated.
In testimony of which invention, I hereunto set my hand.
WILLIAM VANSOOYOO.
