To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. SNYDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Furniture, of which the followin is a specification.

This invention re ates to a combination of a bed with other articles of furniture in such a manner that the bed and other articles may be operated in conjunction with each other or in inde endence of each other.

The prime ObJBCt of the invention is the provision of a furniture construction for the purpose noted, which will occupy a minimum space when folded up. In the-accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of my improved device. 'Fig, 2 is a central cross section thereof. Fig. 3 is a detail elevation of the outer end 'ofthe bed frame. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail cross section taken on line 44 of Fig. Fig. ,5 is an enlarged detail of a portion of the stiffening and holding means for the end of the bed frame. Fig. 6 is an enlarged sectional detail showing the construction of the writing desk. Fig. 7 is a front elevation of a portion of the devices shown in Fig. ,6.

In the drawings 5 designates a cabinet of any desired construction, separate or embodied in the walls of a structure. Within this cabinet and at the lower end thereof is mounted a bed frame 6. The inner end of the frame is supported on rollers 7 which move horizontall between rails 8 both above and below the m lers, the inner end, or head, of the bedbeing thus restricted to motion in a horizontal lane and prevented from either rising or alling- The bed frame is longer [than the cabinet is deep and would normally project from the cabinet. but for being hinged. at 9. This hinge allows the outer or foot ortion 10 of the bed frame to be swung to the vertical position illustrated so as to close the upper portion of the cabinet opening. Underneath portion 16 of the bed frame a box structure 20 is built, this stru ctureaffordin a housing for drawers 21. At the lower orward end of this'box structure are placed rollers 22 which movably support that end so that the whole bed frame may be moved out of the cabinet into the adjoining room.

Directly above the horizontal portion of. the bed frame and behind the vertical p o"r tion is a drawer inolosing box 25, having drawers 26'therein. This boxis supported on rollers '27 running on rails ,2S which are slightly inclined downwardly toward the front ofthe cabinet, the tendency being for the box of drawers to always move toward the front when the bed is withdrawn. Directly above the drawer box and the bed is a writing desk structure 35, this structure being formed of three panels 36, 37 and 38, all hinged together in such a manner as to bend to the relative dotted positions shown in Fi 1. When drawn out of the cabinet, the different panels are placed in the configuration shown, panel 38 still'b'eing within the cabinet, panel 37 hanging down the front of the cabinet, and panel '36 formingthe desk proper. From the foregoing it will be seen that my invention consists of a combination of a bed frame with drawers or other conveniences in such a manner that the whole takes up a minimum space. In the present construction the depth of the cabinet need not exceed four feet and the height about the same. lVi'thin this space a large number of conveniences, as above described, are located.

IIavingdescribed my inve1'ition,-I claim:

1. A furniture construction, comprising a cabinet, a bed frame slidably mounted in the cabinet, the bed frame being hinged and the foot portion adapted to swing to a vertical position to close the cabinet opening, a member mounted in the cabinet above the horizontal portion and behind the vertical portion of the bed frame, and means to move the member forwardly when the bed frame is moved out of the cabinet.

2. A furniture construction, comprising a cabinet having an open front, a bed frame slidably mounted within the cabinet, the outer portion of the bed frame being hinged to the inner portion so as to be swung to a vertical position to close the upper portion of the cabinet opening, a drawer containing member slidably mounted in the cabinet above the horizontal portion of the bed frame and behind the vertical portion thereof, means to force the drawer containing member forward when the bed frame is moved forwardly, and means to hold the two portions of the bed frame in their relative angular position.

3. A furniture construction, comprising a cabinet, a bed frame horizontally slidable in the cabinet, the frame being hinged near its center so that one portion of the frame may be swung to a vertical position, a member slidably mounted in the cabinet above the .horizontal portion and in back of the vertion of the frame may be swung to a vertical position to close the opening at the front of the cabinet, rails arranged within the cabinet above the horizontal portion of the bed frame and behind the vertical porti on thereof and sloping downwardly toward the front of the cabinet, and a member movably mounted on the rails.

5. A furniture construction, comprising a cabinet open at its front, a bed frame horizontally slidable within the cabinet, the frame being hinged intermediate its ends so that the outer portion of the frame may be swung to a vertical position to close the upper part of the cabinet opening, rails mounted on the inside of the cabinet above and behind the bed frame, the rails sloping downwardly toward the front of the cabinet, a drawer containing member movably mounted on the rails, and means on the bed frame and on the drawer containing member adapted for inter-engagement so that the member is moved forwardly when the bed frame is moved forwardly out of the cabinet.
