BRUSH-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 24, 1910.
Application filed January 11, 1909. Serial No. 471,822.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP T. FLACH, a citizen of the United States, residing in Norwood, Pennsylvania, (whose postoffice address is Norwood, Pennsylvania,) have in vented certain Improvements in Brush- Holders, of which the following is a specification.
One object of my invention is to provide a handle or holding device which may be conveniently and quickly attached to and detached from a scrubbing brush of the ordinary construction; the device being of such a nature that it may readily be adjustable to brushes of different sizes.
It is further desired to provide a device for detachably engaging and holding a scrubbing brush, so constructed that the angle of the handle proper may be adjusted relatively to the brush itself.
These objects and other advantageous ends I secure as hereinafter set forth, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which Fi ure l, is a plan of my improved scrubbing brush, and Fig. 2, is a side elevation.
In the above drawing, A represents a scrubbing brush of the ordinary form. For holding and operating this I provide a fiat plate B, usually of malleable or cast iron, having at its central portion two upwardly projecting lugs 6, whose adjacent faces are toothed or corrugated. This plate is removably held to the scrubbing brush by means of four bolts 6, b the first pair of which pass through holes in one end of the plate B, and are hooked at their lower ends so as to extend under the head of the brush; bein threaded at their upper ends and provided with wing nuts Z2 The bolts 6 at the opposite end of the plate B pass through elongated or slotted openings 6 in said plate and are similarly hooked at their lower ends so as to engage the under side of the head of the brush. The slots 6 extend longitudinally of the plate B so as to permit of the adjustment of the bolts to suit scrubbing brushes of different widths. These bolts are also provided with threads at their upper ends on which are screwed wing nuts 6 An elongated stick or handle proper C is provided at its lower end with a head 0 whose extremity is made of such a width as to be capable of fitting between the two lugs 6; its two faces being toothed to cooperate with the toothed faces of said lugs. These latter are provided with a transverse hole for the reception of a clamping bolt 6, on one end of which is screwed a wing nut 6 while its other end is held by engagement with a portion of the plate B so as to prevent its turning.
With the above arrangement of parts, it is obvious that by loosening the nut 6 the stick or handle proper C may be turned on the bolt '6 so as to project at any desired angle to the plate B and hence to the top of the scrubbing brush, after which said nut may be tightened, whereby the two sets of co-acting teeth upon the lugs Z) and on the head 0 prevent any possible relative movement between these parts.
I claim:
The combination of a plate capable of being mounted transversely on the head of a scrubbing brush; two hooked bolts at each end of the plate; wing nuts for holding said bolts with their hooked portions in engagement with the under side of said brush head; with a handle for the plate; sai'd bolts lying in pairs to either side of a vertical plane including the handle, and the bolts at one end of the plate being adjustably mounted in elongated slots therein.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
PHILIP T. FLACH.
Witnesses:
