SCREEN-BED.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, @LIVER O. RICHARD- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brookville, in the county of Saline and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Screen-Beds; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in screen beds.

One object of the invention is to provide a bed of this character which may be entirely inclosed by screens and constructed to permit the top to be opened or one side let down.

Another object is to provide a screen bed which may be folded up when not in use.

lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bed constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the top open and one side let down; Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the bed; Fig. 4 is a similar view of the bed, with parts in folded position.

My improved bed comprises corner posts l which may be of any suitable height and each of which is formed of longitudinal triangular sections which, when brought together, form square posts, as shown. The sections of the posts are hingedly connected at one corner for a purpose to be hereinafter described. The posts are connected together at the ends of the bed by open frames 2 which are covered by fine mesh screen. The posts at one side of the bed are connected together by a side frame 3 which is also covered with screen and at the opposite side of the bed, the posts are connected together by a screen covered frame 4t which is slidably engaged with the posts, whereby said frame may be raised or lowered to close and open said side of the bed. Then the frame 4L is in raised or closed position, said frame is held by any suitable fastening devices 4a.

The bed is provided with a bottom 5 consisting of a frame in which may be arranged slats or any suitable form of springs. The frame 5 is hingedly connected to the posts Specification of Letters Patent.

at the stationary side of the bed and is adapted to be folded up against said side when the bed is folded. The outer edge of the frame 5, when the latterl is swung downwardly, is engaged with suitable supports 6 on the posts, whereby the frame is held in operative position. I-Iingedly connected to the upper ends of one section of the posts at the stationary side of the bed is a screen covered top frame 7, which is adapted to be closed down upon the upper edges of the side and end frames thereby completely inclosing the bed with a screen covering which will effect-ually keep out insects. The cover frame 7 is adapted to be swung upwardly to an open position and to be supported in this position by suitable chains S which are connected thereto and to the upper ends of the end frames. By providing a hinged top or cover and a slidably mounted side frame, the bed may be readily opened to permit the entering or leaving the same or the placing therein or the removal therefrom of a child.

By hingedly connecting the triangular sections of the corner posts of the bed, the sides and ends thereof may be folded together, as clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings. Before the sides and ends are folded up, the chains of the top frame '7 are released and said frame folded down against the outer side of the stationary frame 3 of the bed, while the bottom 5 is folded upwardly against the inner side of said frame v3, thus permitting the ends and opposite side to be readily folded, as shown.

By means of a bed constructed as herein shown and described, the occupant may sleep in the open air or in exposed places without danger of being annoyed by insects.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood withoutrequiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as deiined in the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

A bed comprising corner posts formed in longitudinal triangular shaped hingedly connected sections, screen covered side and end frames secured to said posts, one of said side frames having a vertically sliding engagement with the posts at one side of said bed, catch devices arranged on two of the Corner posts to hold the vertically-sliding frame in closed or raised position, a screened neoted to said corner posts and adapted to be swung upwardly into engagement with the adjacent side of the bed.
