UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHANN KLETTI, III, 015 SANDI-IAUSEN, GERMANY.
CIGAR-MAKERS BOX AN'D ROLLING-BOARD.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHANN KLETTI, III, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Sandhausen, in the Grand Duchy of Baden, Germany, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cigar-Makers Boxes and Rolling-Boards; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention.
This invention relates to a rolling board adapted for use in applying the covering leaf of cigars characterized in that it simultaneously forms the cover for two spaces provided one above the other and separated by a strainer, the lower space being filled with water, while the upper space is adapted for the reception of and for maintaining in a moist condition the covering leaves.
As is well known the covering leaves of the cigars must be moistened before they are used, this being generally effected by wrapping the leaves in wet cloths. This process however is not only dirty and unhealthy the cloths, as they are continually kept wet, commencing to rot and the putrid fungi being transferred to the covering leafbut is also injurious to the quality of the covering leaves as they lose their aroma and when they remain for some time in the cloths or when the cloths are too wet so called water stains are formed thereon thus decreasing These disadvantages are obviated by the present invention. The covering leaves situated on the strainer draw up from the lower space as much moisture as is required. They therefore always contain the necessary degree of moisture for working and are never too wet or too dry as was hitherto the case. As they are never in direct contact with the water the danger of stains is avoided and the covering leaf retains its good aroma even if the water is not renewed for some days.
In the accompanying drawing is illustrated a constructional form of the invention.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 27, 1909.
Patented May 24, 1910.
Serial No. 535,029.
Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a plan in the open position. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross section.
The rolling board Z) constructed of wood and provided with a coating a of sheet zinc forms the cover of a receptacle d, rigidly connected to the support by rails 0, and connected to the board I) by hinges c.
The receptacle is divided into two spaces 9 and h by means of a strainer 7, preferably also of sheet zinc, the lower space being filled to about 23 centimeters high with Water, while the upper space serves for the reception of the covering leaves 2' which are to be used. The leaves draw sufficient moisture through the strainer to keep them continually in the necessary pliant condition for working.
The strainer is removable and rests upon supports 70 preferably formed of tin tubing.
Laterally of the receptacle is provided a small saucer Z for the receptacle of the adhesive material required when applying the covering leaf.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed I declare that what I claim is Moistener and rolling board for the cover leaves of cigars, comprising a receptacle, a removable strainer dividing said receptacle into two parts, the lower for the reception of the moistening liquid, and the upper for the cover leaves, a metal coated rolling board hinged to said receptacle, adapted to form the cover for the same, and a glue bowl at one side of said receptacle, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
Dated this 13th day of December 1909.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
