ALPHONSE G. KAUFMANN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
RECEPTACLE FOR CARRYING AND DISPLAYING CIGARS.
' b all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALrnoNsE Gr. KAUF- MANN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Receptacles for Carrying and Displaying Cigars, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to receptacles for carrying one or more cigars'in the pocket, whereby the cigar is protected from being injured or broken, and has especial reference to that class of cigar receptacles which consists of one or more tubes or pockets of paper or other suitable thin material, the tubes being so formed that when not in use they will be flat and can be laid in sheets for distribution.
In using the present style of pockets for cigars that are formed in folds, a cigar which has a label or band encircling it is not easily slipped into a pocket, and in attempting to push a cigar with a band on it into such pocket the band is not only liable to be torn off, but the wrapper of the cigar is liable to be injured or broken so as to render the cigar useless'and also destroy the band.
The object of this invention is to avoid such injury and mutilation of the cigar, and at the same time utilize the band.
Referring to the accompanying drawing,-Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the invention, showing a short cigar tube having a cigar band secured at its open end and a cigar located in said tube. Flg. 2 is a view in elevation of a paper tube constructed according to this invention, and a cigar projecting from said paper tube, and a cigar band on said cigar at the mouth of said paper tube and having a portion of the band ovgrlapping and secured to the end of said tu e. I
In carrying out the invention, a tube, 1, of paper or other suitable thin material'is provided of such a length as to cover a portion of a cigar 3 inserted in it.
Referring to Fig. 1, a cigar band, 2, is secured to the tube 1 at its 0 11 end by pasting or otherwise,'- said ban indicating the brand of cigars which is placed therein.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 20, 1909.
Patented May 24, 1910.
Serial No. 534,225.
The tube 1 is of such a length as to disclose a large portion of the cigar 3 inserted therein so as' to distinguish its color and shape. The tube may be put into use with the band thereon, or the band may be removed from a cigar and secured to the tube at its open end, the band being provided with a gumnied surface for that purpose. In lieu of securing a band at the open end of the tube, the band may be represented on the tube by printing, engraving, stamping, embossing or as otherwise desired.
Referring to Fig. 2 of the drawing, the band 2 is shown as mounted on a cigar 3 adjacent to the open end of the tube in which the cigar is inserted, the band being secured to the open end of the tube by having a portion thereof overlapping the end of the tube and secured thereto by pasting or otherwise. I
It has been the experience that in removing the cigar band from a cigar, the wrapper is often broken and consequently not only the appearance of the cigar is injured, but also the cigar is made to leak, and thereby to draw badly. By means of this invention a cigar band will be withdrawn with the tube, without any danger of breaking the wrapper.
The tubes are used with cigars placed in them and packed in boxes, or the cigars placed in the tubes are sold at retail when not packed in boxes. The tubes with the band are used with the particular brand and a style of cigar indicated by the band and are not used with any and all kinds of cigars. The tube is used on the head portion of the cigar.
Having described the invention, I'clairn A cigar tube of the character described, having a closed end and of a length to fit over and cover a portion of a cigar at the head end thereof, and a cigar band on the open end of said tube.
Signed at New York city in the county of New York and State of New York.
