Specification of Letters Patent.
GAS-RANGE ATTACHMENT.
Patented May 17, 1910.
Application filed June 19, 1909. Serial No. 503,105.
on when the range is not in use. This I ac-- complish by a stop device, which I mount to turn on that portion of the gas supply pipe with which the cocks connect, the said device having a portion which, when the device is turned, moves against the handles of the cooks.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure l is a fragmentary view in perspective, of a gas ran e having my improved attachment applied thereto; Fig. 2
is a cross section through the gas supply pipe, showing my improved attachment in section and arranged in a position to prevent the opening of the cooks; Fig. 3 1s a similar sectional view, showing the attachment turned down to an inoperative osition; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view 0 the attachment.
For the purpose of illustrating the nature and application of, my improved attachment, I have shown an ordinary gas range 5, having a gas supply pipe 6 extended across the front and upper portion thereof, the said pipe feeding the several burners through a number of connecting cocks 7, each having an operating handle 8. I
A stop device 9, constituting my attachment, is preferably constructed of a sheetmetal blank, having the lower portion thereof curved to conform to the supply pipe 6, on which the device is mounted to turn. From the upper edge of the curved portion 10 extends a flange 11, which is designed to move into the path of and a ainst the handles 8 of the cooks. To hol the sto device assembled with the supply pipe, an to secure it in itsdifierent positions of adjustment, I provide the curved portion with cock connecting with the pipe and transverse slots 12, arranged near each end, and provide the' supply pipe 6 with studs .14, arranged to reglster wlth the slots 12,
each stud having athumb-nut 15. The studs are so located that the stop device ma be turned inwardly against the handles 0 the cooks, as shown in Fig. 2, and moved completely out of the path of the handles of the cocks, as shown in Fig. 3, within the, limits afforded by the slots. When the gas from 1 all of the burners, fed through the ipe 6, is cut off, the handles of the cooks wi 1 lie approximately parallel to the stop device. The
stop device can then be moved to the position shown in Fig. 2, and the thumb-nuts tightened, when the accidental turning on of the cooks is eflectually prevented. I
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent Q 1. The combination of a supply pipe, a
cock connecting with the pipe, having a handle, and a stop device mounted to turn on the pipe and having a portion movable against the handle of the cock.
2. The combination of a gas stove having a supply pipe provided with connecting cocks, each cock having a controlling handle, and a stop device mounted to turn on the pipe and having a portion movable against the handles of the cooks. v
3. The combination of a supply ipe, a aving a handle, a stop device mounted to turn on the pipe and havin a portion movable against the handle 0 the'cock, and mearis for securing the device in operative and inoperative position. I
4. The combination of a gas stove having a supply pi e andprovided with cocks to control the iibw of gas from the su ply pipe to the several burners, each cock aving a handle, and a stop device mounted to turn on the supply p1pe and having an outwardly-projecting portion adapted to ass into and out of" he path of the cock han les.
In testimony whereof-I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses- MAURICE P. ODONOHOE.
