To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CALVIN H. THOMPSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mounds, in the county of Creek and State of Uklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Nose- Bag Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention is an improved nose bag holder having means whereby it may be attached to the haines of a harness so as to support the nose bag in place for feeding a horse, one object of the invention being to effect improvements in the construction of the holder whereby the same is adapted to be folded compactly into small compass when not in use; a further object being to e'ect improvements in the `construction of the holder whereby the same is made longitudinally adjustable so that it may be used for supporting a nose bag for feeding a horse of any size; a further object being to edect improvements in the means for connecting the holder to the haines.

The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.

1n the accompanying drawings z-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a nose bag holder constructed in accordance with this invent-ion, showing the same attached to the hames of a harness and extended in position for use in holding a nose bag for feedinff a horse. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan of the same. Fig. 4 is a similar View showing the holder partially folded. Fig. 5 is a similar view showing the holder fully folded and disposed in the smallest space.

My improved nose bag holder comprises a plurality of sections iieXibly connected t0- gether and foldable one upon the other. It is here shown as comprising an inner section 1, an intermediate section 2 and an outer section 3. The said sections consist of side bars and cross or connecting bars.

The side bars 4 of the inner section 1 are connected together by a cross bar 5, the said said side bars, at the lower edges thereof are stops 9.

The side bars 10 of the intermediate section 2 are longitudinally adjustable and consist of inner members 11 and outer members 12 which are disposed in slidable partially overlappiiig relation and are respectively provided with angular portions 13, 14, provided with openings through which the said sections extend, that is to say, the angular portions 13 of the sections 11 have openings through which the sections 12 extend and the angular portions 14 of the sections 12 have openings through which the sections 11 extend. The sections 11 are connected together by a cross bar 15 and the sections 12 are connected together by a cross bar 16, said cross bars 15, 16, being identical in construction with the cross bar 5 hereinbefore described. The inner end portions 0f the inner sections 11 of the side bars of the intermediate frame section or holder section bear against the inner sides of the outer portion of the side bars 4 of the inner holder section 1 and are pivotally connect ed thereto as `by means of rivets 17 and 'hence the said intermediate section is foldable upon the inner section and may be eX- tended outwardly therefrom in a right line therewith, and when so extended the sections 11 of its side arms bear on the stops 9 of said inner sections. Link loops 18 are pivotally connected to the inner sections 11 ofthe side arms of the intermediate holder section 2 as by means of rivets 19.

The side bars 20 of the outer holder section 3 are formed integral and are connected by a curved portion 21. The inner ends of said side bars bear against the inner sides of the outer sections 12 of the side bars 10 and are pivotally connected thereto as at 22. Hence the said outer section is foldable between the sides of and against the cross bars of the intermediate longitudinally adjustable section 2 and when extended in a right line therefrom as in Figs. l, 2 and 3, bears on stops 23 with which the outer sections 12 of the side bars of the intermediate holder section 2 are provided. A cross bar 24 which is curved reversely to the curved portion 21 of the outer section 3, also connects the side bars 2O of said outer section together.

The nose bag 25 has its upper open end disposed within the outer section 3 of the holder and secured thereto as by means of rings 26 which engage the side bars and cross bars of said outer section of the holder. At the inner ends of the side bars et of the inner holder section l are snap hooks 27 which may be engaged with tug rings 2S on wooden hames as here shown or may be engaged directly With and pass around iron haines. Hence the inner section of the bag holder is detachably connected to the lower portion of the hames of a harness. Supporting straps 29 have their lower ends connected to the links 18 and their upper ends provided with loops 30 to be slipped over the upper ends of the hames. Hence the said straps support the inner end of the intermediate section of the nose bag holder, the leverage of the intermediate and outer sections of the nose bag holder maintaining said sections in line with each other and with the inner section, as will be understood, this leverage being also assisted by the Weight of the nose bag and its contents.

Owing to the fact that the intermediate section of the nose bag holder is longitudinally adjustable, the nose bag may be ad justed as may be required to enable it to be readily reached by the horse and the holder is adapted to be used in feeding a horse of any size. By disconnecting the hooks 27 and the loops 30 from the haines, the holder may be readily detached. When not in use, the holder may be folded so as to occupy but little space.

What is claimed is The herein described nose bag holder comprising an inner section composed of a pair of side bars, and a cross bar connecting them together, said side bars having stops on their inner sides at their outer ends, an

intermediate section composed of longitudinally` adjustable side bars each consisting of inner and outer members disposed in overlapping relation and respectively provided with an angular portion having openings through which said members extend, cross bars respectively connecting said inner and outer members together, the inner ends ot said inner members being disposed on the inner sides of the side bars of the inner section and pivotally connected thereto so that said intermediate section is foldable in said inner section and when extended bears on the said stops thereof, the said outer menibers of the side bars of the intermediate section having stops on their inner sides at their outer ends; an outer section having side arms pivotally connected to the inner sides of the outer members of the side bars of the intermediate section, foldable in said intermediate section and when extended adapted to bear on the said stops thereof, means to connect the inner ends of the said bars of said inner sections to the lower poi'- tions of harness haines, and means to connect the inner portions of the side bars of said intermediate section to the upper p0rtioiis of harness haines.
