RIBBGN-HOLDER.

To all lwhom it may concern:

Be it known that l, ARTHUR MORGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at ll'lilkes-Barre, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful mprovements in Ribbon-Holders, of which the following is a specilication.

rEhe invention relates to an improvement in ribbon holders, being more particularly directed to a device designed for removable connection to a roll of ribbon and adapted when in position to fix the ribbon with relation to the roll at any desired point in the length of the ribbon.

rlhe main object of the present invention is the provision of a ribbon holder including engaging elements designed to oopcrate with opposing edges of the roll, the elements being connected by a holding member designed to extend transversely of and overlie the ribbon, whereby to fix the ribbon with relation to the roll at any desired point in its length without perforating or in any way inarring the ribbon or the material on which it is wound.

rlhe invention in its preferred details of construction will be described in the following specification, reference being had particularly 'to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a plan of a ribbon roll, showing the improved holder applied thereto. Referring particularly to the accompanying drawings, it will be noted that the improved holder is designed for use in connection with the ordinary ribbon roll in which the desired length of ribbon l and underlying strip of paper 2 or the like is wound about a suitable box 3.

@rdinarily the end of the ribbon is secured in position by pins or other fastenings, and such method of fixing the ribbon to the roll is also usually employed when a portion of the ribbon is wound from the roll for display or like purposes. This method of securing the ribbon is objectionable as it perforates the same, interfering with its appearance and sale as a perfectarticle.

The improved holder comprises engaging elements el and 5, the former preferably constituting an elongated triangular member 6 constructed of a single length of wire and having a length somewhat less than the width of the roll with which it is to c0- operate. At the base end of the member the cross bar is provided with a hinge connecting section 7 preferably constructed of a single strip centrally and loosely coiled about the cross bar with its ends beyond said coil portion arranged in contact and formed with registering openings providing an eye S. rlhe other engaging member is also constructed of a single length of material preferably wire centrally bent to form an eye 9 and projected therefrom to provide divergent arms l0, the terminals of which are bent downwardly and on converged lines to form a hook ll. The respective engaging elements are connected by an elastic strip l2, preferably in the form of a rubber band, looped at the ends in the eyes 8 and 9.

ln use, one of the engaging elements, as d, is inserted for its full length between superimposed layers of the roll from one side engaging element is carried across the surface of the roll and its hook end ll engaged beneath a suitable number of layers of the opposing edge of the roll. By this means the holding strip 1Q is stretched tightly across the ribbon with the effect to tix the ribbon at such line with relation to the roll, and prevent unwinding of the ribbon beyond such line.

llhe holder may be secured to permit the free projection of any desired length of rib bon, so that a portion of the ribbon may be left free for display purposes, or the eX- treme end of the ribbon may be fixed to the roll as is desirable in storage.

rlhe salient feature of the present invention resides in the opposing hook members to engage the opposite edges of the roll and an intermediate holding member to overlie and bear against the ribbon to secure the same in fixed relation to the roll on a line transverse thereof. ln this connection it is to be understood that while preferring the construction shown and described, l do not desire to limit myself thereto, as the holding member may be constructed of an inflexible length of material connected to the engaging members by short lengths of excluding a hook and a bearing portion, and

an extensible connector joining the bearing portion of the hook member and the section movahlT connected to the engaging member. 15
