GARMENT-PRESSER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrrr BIsoHor, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Pressers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved presser for pressing garments or articles of wearing apparel such as ties, scarfs and the like, the object of the invention being to provide an improved device of this character which is extremely cheap and simple, being very easily operated and which is entirely efficient and reliable.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective of a garment presser constructed in accordance with my invention showing the same closed. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the same.
In the construction of my improved gar ment presser, I provide a pair of presser boards 1, 2, which may be of any suitable size and shape and are preferably provided on their opposing sides with linings 3. On the outer side of the presser board 1 near the ends thereof are pairs of crossed spring wires 4 each of which is curved somewhat and bowed outwardly from the said presser board and has its ends down-turned as at 5 and inserted in the presser board. A pair of spring bails or clamps 6 are employed, each of which is made of a single piece of spring wire bent to form a central portion 7 and down-turned end portions 8, 9, the end portions 8 being formed with eyes 10 which are engaged by staples 11 which serve to pivotally connect said bails or clamps to one side of the lower presser board 2, the ends 9 of said bails or clamps being formed with hooks 12 to engage pins 13 which project from the opposite side of the lower presser board 2. The said spring bails or clamps in order to secure the presser boards together and compress the presser boards on opposite sides of a tie, scarf, or other article of wearing apparel such as indicated Specification of Letters Patent.

at a, are disposed transversely over the upper presser board 1 so as to bear on the spring rods 4; and the hook ends of said bails are engaged with the pins 13 so that the crossed spring wires and also the spring bails or clamps coact to compress the article between the presser boards. The crossed spring Wires in addition to their function of coaoting with the spring bails or clamps to press the boards together also serve to distribute the stress to various points of the presser boards so that the presser boards are compressed to an equal degree on the arti cle at all points and the pressure of the device on the article is rendered uniform. To open the presser device and permit the removal of the article after the latter has been pressed, it is only necessary to disengage the hooks of the spring clamps or hails from the pins 13 as will be understood.
It will be understood that the article to be pressed may be suitably sprinkled before being placed between the presser boards or it may be placed between the presser boards in connection with suitable layers of fabric which may be dampened or not as may be required.
lVhat is claimed is 1. A clothes pressing device comprising a pair of presser boards, one having crossed spring wires on its outer side, bails to bear on the said crossed spring wires and means to detachably connect the bails to one of the presser boards and cause the bails to coact with the crossed spring wires to press an article between said presser boards.
2. A clothes presser comprising a pair of presser boards one having crossed spring wires on its outer side with their ends attached thereto and bails detachably connected to the other presser board and to bear on said crossed spring wires, secure said presser boards together and cause them to exert pressure on an article placed between them.
In testimony whereof I aftix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH BISOHOF.
