DAVID MYLES, OF DUNDEE, SCOTLAND.
GOLF-CLUB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 3, 1910.
Application filed August 20, 1907. Serial N 0. 389,380.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID MYLES, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and a resident of Dundee, in the county of Forfar, Scotland, (whose postofiice address is 111 Cowgate, Dundee,) have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Golf-Clubs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to metal golf driving and lofting clubs the objects being to form the head in such a fashion that it will be more perfectly balanced than has hitherto obtained, and thus drive a ball a greater distance than any other metal golf club.
In order that my said invention and the manner of putting the same into practice may be properly understood, I have hereunto appended an explanatory sheet of drawings in which the same reference numerals are used to indicate corresponding parts in the figures shown.
Figure l is a face view of a metal club constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a back view of same. Fig. 3
is a section at A. A. (Fig. 2) and Fig. 4c is a plan.
In carrying out my invention, I balance the metal golf club by providing an elliptical conical enlargement 5 on its rear face, so
the axis B, B of the cone lying at an angle to the longitudinal center 0, O of the head the sole 8 of the club is parallel to the ground the enlargement at the back lies at an angle to the ground. Without the en largement, the center of gravity of the club would be on the line C-O, Fig. 2, but with the enlargement located as specified, the center of gravity is on the line BB, Fig. 2.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A metal golf club comprising a head having an elliptical conical enlargement on its rear face the longer axis of the cone lying at an angle to the longitudinal center of the head, the lower part of said enlargement pointing toward the heel and the higher part toward the toe.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
DAVID MYLES.
Witnesses:
GEORGE CAMERON DOUGLAS, AGNES CULBARD DOUGLAS.
