The Schedule' referred to in these Lettere Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that '1, SIDNEY M. STEVENS, of Elwood, in the county of Will, and .State of Illinois, have invented certain Anew and useful Improvements in Grain-Driers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, rel'- erence being had to the 'accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, iu which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of my invention;

SIhe nature of my invent-ion consists- First, in forcing the grain, by means of afan-blower, through a system of heated tubes, which are so arranged as to discharge the grain into the top of a vertical cooling-tube, which is provided at the bottom with a blast of cool air, through which the grain falls, whereby the same isdried Aand cooled at one opera` tion.
Secondly, in the novel construction of the furnaces for heating the tubes, together with the fau-blower, as will be hereinafter more fully explained.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, l will proceed to describe the same with reference to the drawings.
A represents the heater-case, which may be of any suitable form of construction, allowing the same to have two vertical lines, C and C, which extend across vfrom side to side of the heater-case.

. The operation -is as follows:
A fireis first placed in tire-box 5B, the heat allowed to pass into flue C, which properly heats tube S. The grain is fed into hopper L of fan-easel. Fails f and f of shaft ou, are given a rot-ating motion, by means of suitable belts passing around pulleys r fr, thus forcing the grain through tube S, as shown by arrows l to 4,-.into the top of tune T, and is there allowed to fall, as indicated by arrows 5 to-7, which comes in contact with the cool air from tube S, as shown by arrows 9 and 10.
Thus the grain is dried and cooled by one operation.
The lighter-bad portion is thrown out at the top of tube T, as shown by arrow 8.
Having thus` described the nature and objectof my invention,
What I cla-hn as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
