' To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD I-I. HITCH- COCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at the town of Glenwood, county of Cass, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Racks or Cabinets, of which the following is aspecification.

This invention relates to improvements in racks or cabinets.

My improved rack or cabinet is especially designed by me for holding the cylindrical boxes for cylindrical phonograph records, although it is adapted for holding various other articles.

The main objects of this invention are: First, to provide an improved rack or cabinet of the class described, which is compact in structure and, at the same time, of large capacity. Second, to provide an improved rack or cabinet of the class described adapted for supporting phonograph records in which the records are supported so as to be conveniently accessible, the supports or holders being designed to support the record boxes so that the records or the boxes can be removed and replaced as desired. Third, to provide an improved structure of the class described, which is very simple and economical in structure.

Further objects, and objects relating to structural details will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.

I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.

The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.

A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:

In the drawings, similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.

Referring to the drawing, the frame as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 consists of a suitable base 1, top 2 with back 3 and corner members 1, the casing being open on three sides. A drawer, as 5, is preferably arranged in the top of the frame. The casinglike outer support 6 for the holders is cylindrical in form and is provided with a door 7 which is preferably segment-like as illustrated. The door is hinged at one side, by suitable hinges 8, and is provided with a suitable latch 9. This outer support is revolubly supported within the frame preferably by means of the bearing members 10 and 11 on the frame, and on the support and the bearing ball 12. The upper end of the support 6 is supported by a vertically-arranged pivot 13. Suitable bearings 14 and 15 are provided therefor on the frame and on the support. See Fig. 2. The inner support 16 is revolubly mounted within the outer support and is provided withbearing members preferably the same as the outer support, the pin 13 also serving as a pivot for the inner member, it being arranged through the bearing members of both the inner and outer supports. The holders are preferably arranged in horizontally-disposed rows on the supports, the holders of adjacent rows being zigzag, as clearly appears from Fig. 1 of the drawing, so that they may be compactly arranged. These holders are preferably formed of wire and bent to form oppositely-disposed article engaging members 17 having inwardly and downwardly curved ends 18 adapted to engage the articles to be supported such as the boxes 19, as clearly appears from the drawing. The down-turned ends 18 are preferably connected by an inwardly-projecting loop which forms the third article engaging member 20 of the holders.

In the preferred construction, as is shown in Figs. 1 to 4, inclusive, the wires are bent to form triangularly-disposed loops, the inner ends or the loops being secured to the casing by staples 21 and 22, the staple being adapted to allow the springing of the member 20. See Fig. 4. In the modified construction. shown in Fig. 5, the holders are supported by driving the ends of the holder members 1'? into the support.

In the modified construction shown in Figs. 6 and 7, the frame is modified and consists of a base formed of a pair of crossed pieces 23, and the loop-like upright 2%, the upright in the structure illustrated being formed of a rod. The support 25 in this construction is a rectangular piece on w iich the holders are arranged so that there is a row of holders on each side. The support is revolubly supported in the frame, it being suspended from the link 26, having a swivel connection 27 therein, the lower end of the support being provided with a suitable pivot, not here illustrated. This modified form 015 rack is very simple in structure and is adapted to rest on a stand or table, or to be suspended, a suspending eye 28 being provided at its upper end.

My improved rack is of very large capac ity in proportion to its size, particularly when made with inner and outer supports, as is illustrated in Figs. 1 to 3.

My improved. rack is adapted for either use in stores or for private use. All of the records carried thereby are readily accessible.

I have illustrated and described my improvements in detail in the form preferred by me, on account of the structural simplicity and economy and its convenience in use. I am, however, aware that it is capable of very great variations in structural details, but as these variations will readily occur to those skilled in the art to which this invention relates, i have not attempted to illus trate or describe the same herein.

i l t l l l l 1 l I Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is:

1. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a support; and holders arranged on said support, said holders being longitudinally to said loops, the upper melnbers of said holders being converged inwardly to embrace the sides of the object supported thereby.

In a structure of the class described, the combination of a support; and holders arranged on said support, said holders being formed of wire bent into sets of triangularly disposed loops, the inner ends of said loops being stapled to said support, the sta ples for the lower loop of each set being arranged to permit the same to spring downwardly.

3. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a support; and holders thereon formed of wire bent to form oppositely disposed side members having downwardly and inwardly curved ends, said ends being diverged upwardly to engage the sides of a cylindrical object when presented longitudinally to said members, the said side members being converged inwardly to embrace the sides of the object supported thereby.
