MILKING-VESSEL SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL W. Gnns'rnn, citizen of the United States, residing at Gerster, in the county of St. Clair and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milking- Vessel Supports, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is an improved construction of support designed to hold a receptacle in a more or less elevated position, the invention being designed particularly for use in connection with milking vessels and buckets, such as that described in my companion application, Serial No. 193,920, of which the present case is a divisional application.
The invention consists in certain constructions, arrangements, and combinations of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved bucket support showing it applied to a milking vessel. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof showing the support nested within the vessel, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the support by itself.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters.
The milking vessel described in my copending application above mentioned, includes a body portion 1, and a top 2, which is provided with a hood 3. In order that the milking Vessel may be properly used with both large and small cows, the support which constitutes the present invention has been provided. This support, designated 4:, is preferably constructed of light sheet metal having some elasticity, and bound at top and bottom, as well as at its meeting edges with wire, or the like, as indicated at 5. The supporting band 4: is designed to encircle the lower end of the body portion or receptacle 1 of the milking vessel, and the band is formed with any desired number of spurs or prongs 6 which are preferably punched inwardly therefrom and which are designed to engage the lower edge of the receptacle so as to hold it at the desired elevation. Obviously, the spurs may be any distance apart, both vertically and horizontally considered.
The free ends of the supporting band 4 may be secured together in any desired way. In the present instance, for this purpose I have shown said ends as formed at their lower corners with apertures in which a split link 7 is designed to be received, so as to detachably connect the ends of the band together at this point. One end of the band is provided near its upper corner with a spring catch 8 designed to engage the adjacent edge of the other band which is formed by the vertically disposed wire thereof.
From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawing, the operation of my improved holder will be apparent.
In the practical use of the device, to apply the band, the spring catch 8 is released and the receptacle 1 is inserted downwardly within the band until the desired elevation has been reached, whereupon the corners of the two ends of the band are secured together by the catch 8, so as to properly encircle the receptacle 1 with the desired spurs 6 taken underneath the lower edge of the receptacle to hold the vessel at the desired elevation.
When the parts are not desired for use, as for instance when shipping the device, the top 2 with the hood 3 secured to it may be easily detached from the receptacle 1, inverted and placed upon the upper edge of the receptacle, and the supporting band 4: may be deposited within the receptacle as illustrated in Fig. 2.
