OF SALISBURY, IJL'ARYLAND.
Application filed Gctooer 25, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Fincnnnioii Sainivr'r- 11111:, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salisbury, in the county of Wicoiuico and State of hfi aryland, have invented con tain new and useful Improvements in Boilertitches, and I do declare the following to be a tall, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved boiler patch especially designed for use on steam boilers or the locomotive type in which the tire comes in contact with the sheets.
he object of the invention to providea simply constructed and eilicient patch of this character which is inserted flush with the sheet and in which no patch bolts are required.
With this and other objects in view my invention consists of certain novel :teatures of construction, combination arrangement of parts will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
in the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a front elevation oi: a portion of the boiler sheet with the improved patch applied. Fig. 2 represents a vertical sec-- tion taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a. vertical section taken on the line 3*?) of i 1. Fig. e represents a perspective view of the patch detached. Fig. 5 is a similar view of one of the screw plugs.
in the embodiment illustrated a ooiier sheet 1 is shown having a. hole 2 therein. The edges of this hole are first beveled as shown at 3 in Fig. 2 by any suitable means and the opening is then ready to receive the patch 5. This patch 5 is of size corresponding to the opening which it is designed to close and is constructed as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 with its edges beveled as Specification GL Letters .Zatcnt.
Serial No.
shown at 6. these edges 6 are beveled in opposite directions to the beveled edges 3 oi the opening 2 and the patch when ap plied tits in said opening with its inner and outer faces flush with the inner and outer face. respectively of the boiler sheet 1. The oppositely inclined contacting edges of the two parts serve to support the patch in position and prevent its dropping through the opening. The edges 3 of the opening 2 and those of the patch are provided with registering screw-thread recesses 4t and '7 respectively, which when the patch is applied t rm apertures to receive fastening screw plugs as 8. These plugs, any desired number or which may be used, securely hold the patch in operative position, and, it desired, they may be removed and replaced.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accorn anying drawings, the construction and operation will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the term, preparation and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
1 claim as my invention:
The combination with a boiler sheet haw in an opening thereiiprovided with beveled edges, of a plate shaped to fit said opening with its ecges beveled to tit the beveled edges of the opening, the edges of said opening and said patch having registering recesses formed therein and screw plugs operable in said recesses to secure said patch in position.
In testimony ndicreoi I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
