TEDDIE F. PRICE, OF ROBERTSDALE, PENNSYLVANIA.
NUT-LOCK.
Application filed July 25, 1914.
To (ZZZ whom it nmg concern Be it known that I, TEDDIE F. Pinon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Robertsdale, in the county of Huntingdon and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nut-Locks;'and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in nut locks and has for one of its objects to improve the construction and increase the efficiency and utility of devices of this charactcr.
Another object is to provide a simply constructed device which may be readily and easily applied to bolts and nuts of various sizes and characters and will positively hold the nut against rotation.
The above and additional objects are accomplished by such means as are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, described in the following specification and then more particularly pointed out as claimed.
lVith reference to the drawings, wherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention as it is reduced to practice and throughout the several views of which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts: Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of a bolt showing a nut thereon in section and my improved locking device in section and in position to hold the bolt against rotation, Fig. 2 is a front eleva tion showing the bolt in section, and Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the nut locking device removed.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, the numeral 1 designates a bolt of the ordinary type and 2 a nut turned upon said bolt.
My improved nut locking device comprises a washer plate 3 that is formed of suitable sheet metal and has formed integral therewith on one side thereof a rectangular and bendable locking tongue l. This tongue at is designed to be bent upon and in engage ment with the outer face of the nut on one Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 12, 1916.

side thereof and upon the outer face of the nut so as to closely engage the same.
The bolt 1 is notched transversely as at 5 at its threaded end and the tongue 4 is bent as described and so that its free end is disposed within the notch or groove 5. The tongue engages opposed faces of the nut and one side face thereof snugly and securely holds the nut against rotation.
It will be readily seen that it is only necessary to notch the bolt as described to provide for the locking of the nut thereon. My improved locking device may be readily stamped from sheet metal and thus cheaply manufactured.
In practice, I have found that the form of my invention, illustrated in the drawings and referred to in the above description as the preferred embodiment, is the most cilicient and practical; yet realizing that the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary, I desire to emphasize the fact that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, when required, without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention, as set forth in the claim.
\Vhat is claimed is In a nut lock, the combination of a bolt having its shank provided with a segmental slot formed transversely on one side thereof, and a nut carried on the bolt, of an apertured washer plate mounted upon said bolt in rear of the nut and engaging the inner face of the nut, and a rectangular bendable locking tongue formed integral with the washer plate and adapted to be bent over the nut at a right angle to the plate and to be further bent into engagement with the outer side face of the nut and to terminally engage the inner wall of the segmental slot in the bolt.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
