Letters Patent N0.\95,299, dated September 28, 1869.

IMPROVEMENT IN MITRE-V153.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same;

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES W. WILSON, of Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk, and State of Virginia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in-Mitre- Vise; and I do hereby declare that'the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in means for fastening mitre-joints, more especially designed for use in making picture-flames, but applicable to other purposes; and consists in'holding the parts for forming the joint together, by means of a screw and a right-angled slide on a suitable bed or platform, as will be hereinafter more .fully described.

In the accompanying drawing,

Figure 1 represents a top or plan view of the device complete, showing pieces of moulding in red color coufined therein,'as when being fastened for making a mitre-joint.

' Figure 2 is a vertical cross-section of fig. 1, through the line a: at, showing the fastening-screw, and the manner in which it operates on the angular slide.

Siniilar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

A'is the platform or bed.

B is a. rectangular slot through the 'bed, in which the nut of the screw slides.

O is the nut.

D is the right-angled slide, which is attached to and slides with the nut.

On the face of the bed there are ribs E, placed exactly at a right angle with each other, against which the pieces of moulding are forced by the right-angled slide D. Y

F is the screw which is confined in the lug Or, so that it has no longitudinal motion, but is free to revolve, and of course carries, by means of the nut G,

the slide D back and forth on the face of the bed A.

The edge of the slide and the ribs E form an adjustable groove, in which the pieces. of moulding are confined, as seen 'in the drawing.

When the "moulding has been cut to a mitre and placed in the grooves, the pieces are securely held by turning up the screw.

It will be seen that the mitre-joint projects beyond the angle of the bed, so that it is fully exposed for fastening as may be desired.

By this apparatus, ,mitre-frames may be fastened with perfect accuracy, and with the greatest dispatch.

Having thus described my invention,

, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent The right-angled slide 1) and ribs E, in combination 4 with the screw F, nut 0, slot B, and bed A, substautially as described and for the purpose specified.
