Be it known that I, ABEL BENJAMIN SHARP a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Boise, in the county of Ada and State of Idaho, have invented a new and Improved Miners Candlestick, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to miners candlesticks, and more particularly to a device of this class which comprises a handle, a spike, a hanger and a candle holder, removably secured together.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and durable, miners candlestick, which can be suspended from a suitable sunport, which can be driven into a wall or the like to hold it rigidly in place, which has means for securely holding the candle, and the parts of which are removably held together to permit the candlestick to be taken apart.

The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this speci fication, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device showing certain of the parts in different positions; anc Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the candlestick.

Before proceeding to a more detailed eX- planation of my invention, it should be clearly understood that while the candlestick is particularly adapted for use by miners, it can also be employed for other purposes where it is necessary to have suitable means for holding a lighted candle, and for suspending the same from a support, or for driving the spike of the holder into a wall or the like. The device is preferably fashioned from suitable metal, either cast or forged.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, I provide a handle fashioned from a piece of suitable sheet metal folded upon itself and having the end sections 11 lying normally in juxtaposition. A member 12 is arranged between the end sections 11 and comprises a shank 13 and a pointed or spike end 14:. The handle has a certain normal Specification of Letters Patent. resiliency and has in the end sections 11, openings 15 adapted to register with openings 16 and 17 of the member 12 for a purpose to appear hereinafter.

A hanger 18 has one extremity 19 formed into a hook, and has at the other extremity an offset part 20 provided with an opening 21 therethrough. The candle holder 22 comprises a substantially cylindrical part 23 and has one extremity 2 out ardly disposed to form a thumb-piece, the other extremity 25 being provided with an opening 26 therethrough. A bolt 27 is removably arranged in the openings of the parts and has a head 28 normally engaging at the end of the hanger remote from the hook 19. A butter-fly nut 29 removably screwed upon the threaded end of the bolt serves to hold the parts together. It will be understood that the handle, the spike member, the hanger and the candle holder, are removably fastened together by means of the bolt and can be easily taken apart to readjust them.

The handle 10 has an opening 30 therethrough for a purpose which will be specified later. The candle holder is fashioned from material which gives it a certain resiliency, so that when the candle is inserted therein it grips the latter and holds it in place. To release the candle, the thumbpiece 24: is forced outward to enlarge the diameter of the cylindrical part 23. The spike member is reversible as is shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and may be arranged with the end 1 1 lying within the handle, or with the end 14 outwardly and operatively disposed.

The hanger when in an operative position, extends at right angles to the length of the spike member and the handle, as is shown most clearly in Fig. 1. When it is in an inoperative position the hook end 19 extends through the opening 30 of the handle, the part being reversed as is shown in Fig. 2. In this way the pointed end of the hanger can be guarded as is the spike end of the member 12 when it is in the position shown in Fig. 2.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A device of the class described, comprising a loop-shaped handle having the ends adjacent, a reversible spike member positioned between said ends, a reversible hanger, a candle holder, and a bolt for sc curing said parts removably together, said handle being arranged to receive said member therebetween and having an opening adapted to receive the end of said hanger and form a guard for the same When the said hanger is reversed.

2. A device of the class described, comprising a loop-shaped handle having an opening therein, a spike arranged between the members of the handle, a candle holder at one side of the handle, a hanger at the other side of the handle, and a bolt for securing the spike between the members of the handle and the candle holder and hanger to said handle members, the hanger being reversible and when not in use lying outside of the handle with its hook projecting through the opening of the handle.

In a. device of the class described, the combination with a loop-shaped handle concavo-convex in cross section and having an opening therein, of a reversible hanger having an offset at one end, and a bolt'for securing the hanger to the members of the l handle, the hanger when not in use lying outside of the handle with its hook project ing through the opening of the handle.

A miners candle stick, comprising a loop-shaped handle having parallel members provided with apertures, anapertured member having a shank and a pointed end and lying between the members of the handle, a candle holder consisting of an annular member having one end apertured and lying against one of the members of the handle, the members of the handle, the member and the end of the holder being concavo-convex in cross section, a hanger having a hook at one end and provided with an ofi'set at its other end and an aperture in said offset, and a bolt and nut for securing the several parts together.
