SHUTTER FASTENER AND BOWER.
APPLIOATION IILED DEG.17, 190s.

HARRY ZIMMERMAN, OF FREMONT, OHIO.
SHUTTER FASTENER AND BOWER.
Application filed December 17, 1906.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY ZIMMERMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fremont, in the county of Sandusky and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shutter Fasteners and Bowers, and of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to shutter fasteners and bowers and consists of a sill plate having a plurality of shoulders, and a bracket adapted for attachment to the shutter and having a socketed arm, and a bolt adapted to said socket and to engage the shoulders of the sill plate, as fully set forth hereinafter and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a transverse section showing sill and part of a shutter together with my improvement. Fig. 2 is a perspective view. A sill A and a shutter or sash B occupy their usual relation, a sill plate C is secured to the sill in any suitable manner, and a bracket D is secured to the shutter and is provided with a horizontal arm 2, having a recess 3 for supporting a suitable lock bolt. The sill plate may have any suitable number of bowing sockets for the reception of the hook 4 of the brace rod E to hold the shutter in its different open positions, but to secure the shutter in a closed or approximately closed position, the sill plate has two locking openings presenting two shoulders a2, 3 and the outer face 10 of the sill plate is beveled so as to permit a hook t to ride up the same and drop back of either of the faces or shoulders. It will be seen that the bracket- I) is a rigid bracket and is secured in such position that if the shutter sags in any way the rigid arm 2 of the bracket by its contact with the inclined face of the sill plate will lift the shutter so as to insure that the latter rises easily over the sill A and maintain it in position for its edge to meet properly the edge of the other shutter.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Serial No. 348,301.
The hook automatically locks with one face or other of the sill plate on closing the shutter and cannot be lifted by manipulating the shutter from the outside, but from the inside it can be raised by hand so as to perinit the shutter to be opened and it serves to hold the shutter either closed or partly closed as may be desired; and to compensate for warping, if, after being set in the first instances so as toengage the shoulder 3 the shutter should become so bent as to prevent such engagement, then by engagement with the shoulder 00, the shutter may easily be locked in its closed position which otherwise would not be the case. It will be seen that I am enabled to use the brace rod, both as a brace rod, its hook engaging the bowing openings Z, and as a bolt, when the hook engages the shoulders which are on a line at right angles to the line of openings Z, and this dispenses with a second locking device which would otherwise be required.
Vithout limiting myself to the precise construction and arrangement of parts hereinbefore described, I claim as my invention The combination in a shutter bower of a sill plate having an inclined face and a )luralit-y of locking sockets on a line at right angles to the outer edge of the sill, a rigid bracket having a perforated arm arranged to ride up on the incline and extend over the sill plate when the shutter is closed, and a brace rod pivoted to the shutter with a hook adapted to enter the opening in the said arm and to engage either of the said sockets of the sill plate to lock the shutter in different positions.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRY ZIMMERMAN.
