To all whom it may concern:
Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Typewhich the following is a specification.
This invention relates to, the paper-feedewgitin'g machines, and its object is to facilitate the roduction oi carbon or duplicate copies ot an original typewritten sheet, and particularly to provide means for making a carbon record, tally or duplicate of the prices or amounts entered upona succession of bills or invoices.
In the preferred form of my invention, 1 endless band of carbon paper or ribbon, inked only on one side. This endless band is passed around the platen, with the inked side toward the latter; and 1 provide meansto cooperate with the platen for and causing the latter to fcedaround the laten.

Upon the front sid of a cylindrical platen 1,-revolubl mounte on a platen frame 2 and rotate by means of a hand wheel 3 or otherwise, strike types 4, carried upon type bars 5, which are operated by finger-keys in the usual manner.
Passing around one end of the platen, preferably the right-hand end, is-an endless band 6, inked as at 7 only upon its under or inner side, that is, the side next to the platen. Said band is of suitable length, and its upper end runs over a pair of idle rolls or'guide pulleys 8. The longitudinal movements of the band are effected by the rota- 7 tion of the platen, with which cooperates a set of pressure rolls, one whereof isseen at 9; said rolls being pres'sed against the platen and releasedat will by a 14. In a typewriting machine, the combination with a traveling platen frame, of a bracket or support erected upon said platen frame, a tally-strip delivery spool and a tally strip feeding spool both mounted in permanent positions upon said bracket or support, the strip passing from the deliver spool around the platen and thence to the winding spool, all of the tally-strip devices being permanently located wholly to one side of the main body of the platen, to leave said main body free for the feeding of successive main sheets or bills around the same,n'1echanis1n operating upon said windin spool to wind the same, means also being provided on said support to carry a carbon strip in position to cover that portion of the tally strip which encircles the platen, and means independent of the recited tally-strip devices to cooperate with the main body of the platen to feed said main bills or sheets; said feeding means being releasable to permit the main sheets to be inserted and with: drawn while the tally strip remains stationary.
