SAFETY-ANCHOR FOR AIRSHIPS AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 25, 1909. Serial No. 524,489.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, FRIEDRICH voN EHREN- BERG, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of Stefansplatz 2", Constance, Germany, have invented a Safety-Anchor for Airships and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a safety anchor for airships and the like, wherein the steel shaft of the anchor is provided with flexible sharp edged arms, the whole being adapted to be driven into the earth by blow or pressing from above, to be held fast by edged arms and by springs, and to be released therefrom after the flexible arms are drawn together, thereby permitting said anchor to be hauled up by means of the anchor rope.

The arms 1 as shown in Fig. 1 are jointed to the shaft 2 by means of hinges 3, and are fitted with sharp edges, thus enabling them to cut into the earth, while in addition to this the said arms 1 are adapted to be pressed outward by the action of the springs at, which are connected with the shaft 2. If desired the device can be constructed as shown in Fig. 2, wherein the arms are rigidly connected with the shaft 2 whereby the elasticity is considerably increased.
The anchor is either pressed in or driven into the earth by means of a hammer or mallet, accordin to the nature of the ground, while the release is etlected by drawing the arms 1 together by means of the attendant ropes fastened to the respective ends of the arms, the whole anchor then being easily drawn up by means of the anchor rope (3 from the airship.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A safety anchor for airships and the like, comprising in combination, a shaft. flexible sharp edged arms connected to the latter, springs secured to the shaft and adapted to press the arms outward, and ropes secured to the free ends of said arms, said arms being adapted to cut into the ground and to be withdrawn therefrom when they are drawn together by means of said ropes, substantially as described and shown, and for the purpose set forth.
