MOLDERS FLASK.
To all whom it may concern:
.Be it known that we, J OHN JORDAN and ALrHoNso TYLER, citizens of the United States, residing at Auburn, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Molders Flasks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention pertains to new and useful improvements in molders flasks and relates more particularly to an adjustable pin connection between the top part of the flask and the bottom part thereof.
The object of the invention is to provide an adjustable connection of the type set forth which can be employed either with hand or machine flasks, and further aims to provide a simple, inexpensive, and practical connection for the purpose of guiding the top of the flask as it is being moved toward the lower part.
Further and other objects will be later set forth and manifested herein.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view showing the invention applied to a flask, Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the left hand end of the mold in transverse section, the latter being taken on a. line which is central of the length of the said mold end. Fig. 8 is an elevation of one end of the mold showing the left hand end of said mold end broken away, the adjacent side wall of the mold being in transverse vertical section. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on line 1 1- of Fig. 3, Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of one of the clamping members, Fig. 6 is a similar view of one of 4 the members associated with the clamp, Fig,

In the drawings 1 designates the top part of the flask and 2 the lower or bottom partthereof. At each end of the bottom part of the flask there is secured a clamping bracket 3 which consists preferably of a casting com.- prising an end plate .4, formed at each end thereof with a shelf-like part 5 which re ceives strength and support by virtue of tapering ribs 6 as depicted more clearly in Fig. 5. Each of the shelves 5 is formed with a longitudinal slot 7. sition to provide a socket to receive the guiding pin later referred to and carried by the top part 1 of the flask, as depicted in Fig. 4. Strengthening ribs 10 are preferably formed on the top face of plate 8 to act as bracing means for the member On the under face of plate 8 there are integral enlargements 11 for the purpose of providing sufficient footing for the screw-threaded apertures 12, as illustrated more clearly in Fig. '7. It will be observed that the member 9 extends on opposite sides of the faces of plate 8.
As more clearly observed in Figs. 2, 8, and a of the drawings plate a is secured to the bottom part 2 of the mold by screws 13, and the plate 8 on its upper face is engaged with the under face of plate 5, the ribs 10 engaging between the inner side faces of the ribs (5 and thereby serve as means to properly aline the parts when being assembled as just set forth, and as more clearly seen in Fig. 3. Due to the presence of the slots 7 through which the securing screws 1 1 pass to el'lgage in the threaded apertures '12 it will be obvious that the member 9 can be adjusted so as to move toward or away from the plate 4- for the purpose of accommodat ing pins of different size, or to provide for any imperfections in workmanship or shrinkage or contraction of the material of which the device or the mold is constmcted. The top part 1 of the mold has also secured thereto a clamping member 4t which is simi lar in all respects to that secured to the lower part 2.
A plate 8 is formed with enlarged parts 11 provided with screw threaded apertures 1:2 and on its opposite face is formed with robs 10.-simila1.'in all respects to the illustration in Fig. 7, butwith this change, namely that there is a side extension 15 which is formed integral with the pin 16, which. latter is of ll-shape so asto conformably engage the member 9 as illustrated clearly in Fig. 4. The plate 8 is secured to the clamping member 4t exactly in the same manner as above described in connection with plates 5 and 8, the securing screws 17 allowing of adjustment in precisely the same manner above described in connection with said plates 5 and 8.
In use the parts are alinedso that when the pins 16 are lowered to engage the members 9 the same will conformably engage in the manner depicted in Fig. 4. This is possible due to the fact, as above stated, that the members 9 are adjustable with respect to the lower part 1 of the flask, while on the other hand the pins 16 have a similar adjustment with respect to the top part 1. Thus it is possible to so adjust the parts that a perfect fit can be obtained at all times, eliminating any possibility of the parts 1 and 2 shifting, or otherwise moving when in normally related position. By the use of the present improvementthe connections between the parts 1 and 2 can be readily and perfectly adjusted so that should there be any warpage or shrinkage of the parts 1 and 2 in cases where same are constructed of wood, or on the other hand should there by any contraction or expansion of the material of which the connections are made, or of the parts 1 and 2 in cases where same are made of metal, such discrepancies can be obviously corrected with ease and facility.
By constructing the pin 16 and the pin receiving members 9 V-shape in cross section there is not only contributed the desideratum of lightness in weight of the parts, but furthermore saving in material is effected.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In combination with the top partand lower part of a molders flask, a plate rigidly secured to each end of said top part, a pair of shelf-like parts carried by each plate and arranged in spaced relation, each of said shelf-like parts being longitudinally slotted, a second plate formed with a pair of spaced ribs adapted to engage the inner sidesof the shelf-like parts, means passing through said slots to adjustably secure the second named plate to said shelf-like parts, pin engaging means carried by the second named plates, and a pin carried by each end of the top part of the flask adapted to engage said pin engaging means.
2. In combination with the top part and lower part of a molders flask, a plate rigidly secured to each end of the top part, a pair of shelf-like parts carried by said plate in spaced relation, a second plate engaging said shelf-like parts, means to adjustably clamp said second plate to said shelf-like parts, means carried by said second plate to engage the inner sides of the shelfdike parts, a pin integral with the second plate and depending therefrom, and means adjustably secured to each end of the lower part of the flask to receive said pins.
3. In a molders flask, in combination with the top part and the lower part, a clamping member rigidly carried at each end of the top part and the lower part of the flask, a 5 pin carrying member adjustably clamped to 1 each of said clamping members of the top part of the flask, and a pin receiving and engaging member adjustably carried by each clamping member of the lower part of the flask, said pins and said pin receiving parts of the pin receiving members being V-shape in cross section.
I. In combination with the top part and the lower part of a molders flask, a. clamping member carried at each end of the top part and lower part of the flask, a pin carrying member in engagement with each clamping member of the top part of the flask, means for adjustably securing said pin carrying members to said clamping members of the top part of the flask, cooperating alining means carried by the clamping members of the top part of the flask and the pin carrying members, a pin receiving member in engagement with each of the clamping members of the lower part of the flask, means for adjustably securing said pin receiving members to said clamping members of the lower part of the flask and cooperating alining means carried by said pin receiving members and said clamping members of the lower part of the flask.
In combination with the top part and the lower part of the flask, a plate rigidly secured to each end of the top part of the flask and the lower part of the flask, a pair of longitudinally slotted shelf-like parts arranged in spaced relation and carried by each of said plates, a rib at the inner side of each shelf like part connected to the plates. a second plate at each end of each part of the flask, a pair of ribs carried by each of said second plates on the upper face thereof adapted to engage the inner side faces of the first named ribs, a V-shaped pin depending from the second named face of the top part of the flask, screws passing through said slots of the shelf-like parts and through threaded apertures provided therefor in the second named plates of the top part of the flask, a V-shaped pin receiving member extending on opposite sides of the second named plates of the lower part of the flask, and screws passing through the slots of the shelf-like parts of the lower part of the flask through threaded apertures provided therefor in the second named plates of the lower part of the flask.
