A. BROUSE AND `URIAS;VllillDlVIAhll, OF LAKE, OHIO.
naar; Patent N o. 95,078, dawaseprenbwci, 1869;
v INH?IRQVIE!ID` SAUSAGE-STUFFER.
` v The Schedule referred'to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom. ,it may concern Be it known that. we, A. L.- Bnousn and .URrAs WErDMAN, both of 'Lake Post Oce, in the county of Stark, and State of Ohio,l have invented new and use- .ful Improvements inSausage-Stulers; and we do hereby declare that the-following yis a full, clear, and exact description of our invention, reference being had to the i accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specifcation, and to the letters of referenceA marked thereon,
of which drawings-f Figure l is an elevation of our machine. Figure 2 is a plan ofthe same.
' Figure 3 is an elevation'of the extendedr side of the stu'er-box.
Figures 4 are detailed views of the discharge-tube.
Figure 5 isan elevation of the clamp `for the disx The nature of our invention consists, Afirst, in the novel construction of the mechanism for operating the plunger in a sausage-stuiten whereby we obtain all the desired movements'of the plunger, by a simple manipulation of the pressureflever, and without the necessity of taking hold of the plunger..
Our invention consista-secondly, in the 'novel mode of constructing and attaching the discharge-tube of a sausage-stutter, whereby `we can 4readily remove said tube, and thus facilitate the cleaning of it, andof the machine. i
Our invention consists, thirdly,l in providing the `plunger of a sausage-Studer with a valve opening downward from thel plungenso that, as `the plunger is raised,
`airfmay be admitted to thestuifer-box, and the resistance of the pressure of the air to the upward movement ofthe plunger, which is often' troublesome in a clse-tting plunger, is entirely ooviated.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use our inventiomwe will proceed to describe its construc- The platform A of the machine is supported on the legs L L, and has the discharge-hole t formed in it, as indicated by dotted lines in tig. 2.
The Vstutter-box B is secured to itl by lugs, m m,-
formed on the sides of the box, and extending through the platform A, where they are fastened by a key, n, as shown in iig. 1; or, if preferred, other suitable modes of fastening the box mightbe used.
One of the sides O, ofthe stutter-box B, is extended up above the box, as shown in iig-1, and has the slots O and P out in it,'as shown in lig. 3, the upper slot P beingsomewhat wider than the lower slot O', and the two slotsbeing united, .as shown.
rlhe plunger F is of a form corresponding tothe shape of the box B, and'has the hole s made in it, underneath-which isplaced the flexible valve G, as shown in iig.v1. v
The plunger-rod D has the plunger Fse'cured at its lower end, and has the arm E secured on its rear face, as shown.
The plunger-rodD is of the same 'width as the slot P iu-theside C of the box B, and the arm E is of the same width as the -slot O, and extends through said slot,.and has' a cross-pin, @which moves vup and down on the back of the side C.
The standard K'is secured in thel platform A, and
has the link I hinged at its upper end, and the other end of said link is attached to the end of the pressurelever H, whichlever is-pivoted' at the head of the plunger-rod D.
The discharge-tube N has the groove c formed along its side, and has the collar f formed at its upper end.Y
The clamp M isv hung by a staple, g, to the platform A, and has a hole in it, of a size suiiicient to admit the discharge-tube N, which is secured in position by bringing the clamp M up against the platform A, where it is secured by a hasp, h, as shown in figs. 1 'and 2.
From the foregoing description of the construction of our machine, it is readily seen, that by pressing `down on lthe lever H, the chopped meat, which has been previously placed in the box Buuder the plunger F, will be forced out through the hole t, and dischargetube N, into the casing, which is pulled oversaid tube, and that the groove e will allow the air to escape from said casing, as `it becomes filled with meat.
To remove the discharge-tube N, the hasp h. is raised, and theclamp M swung away from the -platform A,
when the tube N can be takenout of said clamp in a manner readily seen.
The plunger F- is raisedfrom the Vbox B by raising the lever H, 'the valve G allowing the air to pass in the hole s, in the plunger F, andthus preventing any tendency toa vacuum under said' plunger, as before described. A v
By raising the lever H until the plunger F clears the box B, and then pressing back on-tbe lever H,
the several parts. may be thrown into the position iu'-A dicated by dottedlines in g. l, the plunger-rod D resting in the slot P, in the side-C, andthe pressure-lever` andiplimger being thrown back, soas to allow o f any easy access to the box B.
By drawingthe lever H forward, the cross-pin a v will be brought against the side C, which will'canse the plunger-rod to swing into an erect position, and hence, will bring the plunger l overthe box B, in proper position to be forced down insa-id box.
The cross-pin a', by 'bearing' on the outside of -the side C, keeps the plunger-rod I) pressed against the side C, and` thus insures the proper/movement of the plunger, l .A
' :Having thus fullydesqribed our invention,
What we claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. Thestuffer-box B, provid-ed with 4the extendedside G, having the slots O and P cnt therein, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The plunger D F, provided with the arm E, with cross-pin a, when used in combination with the stuffer-box B, provided with the extended sideC, having the slots O and P out therein, substantially as and for the purpose specied.
3. The combination of the platform A', stuier-hox B, with extended side C, having slots- O and P out therein; plungerD F, with arm E and cross-pin a, pressure-lever H, connecting-link I, and standard K, the several parts being arranged substantially as and for the purpose speeiied.
4. The discharge-tube N, provided with the groove e andcollar g, when used in combination with the clamp M and platform A, substantially as and for the purpose specified. v
5. 'lhe flexible valve G on the plunger F, provided lwith hole s, opening downward, as shown, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
As evidence that we claim the foregoing, we have hereunto set our hands, in the presence of two witnesses, this 11th day of August, 1869.
