To all whofm, 'it may concern:

Be it known that we, HIRAM MENDENHALL aiid Roiinii'r G. PING, citizens of the United States, residing at Audubon, in the county of Aiidubon and State of Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful Ironing- Board Cabinet, of Which the following is a specification.

The object of our invention is to rovide an ironing board cabinet of simple, urable, and inexpensive construction, so arranged that when in a folded position, it will oceupy a minimum of space and also so arranged that the ironing board roper will form the major portion of the ront of the cabinet When in its folded osition to thereby iitilize the ironing board or the double purpose of an ironing board and a front member for the cabinet.

A further object is to provide improved means for supporting the ironing board in difi'erent positions of adjustment.

A further object is to provide improved means for Securing a, fabrie cover to the ironing board.

Our invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the variousl parts of the device Whereby the objects conteinplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, poii'ited out in our claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in

Referring to the accompanying drawings, we have used .t-he reference numeral 10 to indicate the base of the cabinet, 11, the upright sides, and 12, the top. The ironing board proper forms the front of the Cabinet, and, hence, it is not necessary to provide a door or other front. On the inner face of each side piece is a vertical groove 18, and near the central portion of each side piece is a metal plate 19 having two notehes 20 therein, one iioteh being adjacent to the cross piece 15 and the other adjacent to the cross piece 16.

The ironing board roper comprises a body ortion 21 having its oiiter end tapercd and a so having a flange or rib 22 projecting laterally from its edges, except at its inner end. The said inner end is designed to freely slide iip and dcWn between the sides of the cabinct and the said flange or rib is designed to overlap the front edges of the sides of the cabinet and the inner edges of the front members 13 to thereby form a complete closiire for the front of the cabinet. The strips 17 are designed to fit tightly against the sides of the board below the flange or rib when the board is in its closed position. A latch device 23 is pivoted to the top 12 and is designed to normally stand in position extended downwardly over the upper end of the ironing board to thereby hold it in its closed position, and said latch device is also capable of being swiing iipwardly to permit the ironiiig board to iiioi'e oiitwardly.

The sleeveironing board comprises a body portion 31 connected by a hinge '32 with the cross piece v16. It is provided with a hinged supporting brace 33 designed to enter a notch 34 in the cross piece 16. In this Way, the sleeve ironing board may be supported in a horizontal position above the main ironing board and, when not in use, the sleeve ironing board may be raised to the position shown in Fig. 4, and When the main ironing board is in position in the front of the cabinet, the sleeve ironing board Will be wholly concealed and protected thereby. It is obvious thatthe entire device may be constructed with a minimum of cost and.

by the use of a minimumV of material, because the .cabinet itself comprises only the narrow side uprights and the top and bottom while the ironing board proper forms the major portion of the front and takes the place of a door for the front.

Assnming that the cabinet is in the position shown in Fig. 4, then if it is desired to adjust the parts to the position shown in Fig. 3, the operator first releases the latch device 23, and then swings the upper end of the ironing board outwardly a short distance. He then bodily raises the ironing board to position with the cross piece 24 thereof adjacent to the lower one of the notches 20. During this raising movement, the lower end of the ironing board will be 'guided in the slots 18 by the ends of the cross piece 24. The operator then moves the inner end of the ironing board rearwardly until the cross piece 2-1 rests in the rear lower portion of the notch 20. VVhen in this position, the rear end of the ironing board extends beneath the cross piece 15, and the supporting brace 25 will rest inone lof the notches 26 andthus firmly hold the outer end of the ironing board in a horizontal position. Obviously, the ironing'board can be readily and easily raised to the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 3, so that the operator may have the board at any desired height.

The sleeve ironing board can be easily moved to its position for use as shown in Fig. 3. When it is desired to close the cabimits the lower end of the ironing board to slide down in said groove until it rests upon lthe bottom of the cabinet; he then lcloses the ironing board against the upper portion of the cabinet and the flange or rib 22 at the edge of the ironing board will overlap the parts 13 of the front, and the edges of the sides, and thus form a tight joint all around the ironing board to completely close and protect the interior of the cabinet and the upper surface of the ironing board itself from dust and dirt.

We claim as our invention. b 1. An improved ironing 'board cabinet, comprising a frame open at its front, said opening extending from a point near the bottom to a point near the top of the cabinet, an ironing boardf slidingly mounted in the cabinet and capable of being moved from substantially horizontal position near the center of the opening in the cabinet toa Vertical position, in Which latter position it will serve as a closure for the opening in the front of the cabinet, said ironing board being provided with flanges at its sides de,- signed to overlap the sides'of the opening in the front of the cabinet.

2. An improved ironing board cabinet, comprising a frame open at its front and having corner pieces at the upper eorners of the front and also having upright strips at the lower edges of `the sides of the frame at the front thereof, and an ironing board capable of up and down movement relative to the cabinet and having one end shaped to enter between the sides of theV cabinet, and its body portion shaped to fit into the opening in' the front of the cabinet, and flanges on thel sides of the ironing board designed to overlap the edges of the opening in thev front, said flanges near'the bottom of the board being cut away, and said strips on the side edges of the frame being designed to fit into the cut away portions of the flanges when the ironing board is in position for closing the front of the cabinet.

An improved ironing board cabinet, comprising a frame having sides, top. and bottom pieces, cross pieces at the rear of the frame, front pieces at the upper portion of the frame of such shape as to form an opening in the front of the frame of the size and shape of an ironing board, said side pieces being provided with 'vertical grooves, notched plates secured to said side pieces, an ironing board shaped to fit into the. open front of the cabinet, a flange or rib on the ironing board to overlap the front of the cabinet around the opening, a cross 'piece secured to the upper portion of the ironing board to enter the grooves and brace is folded against .the ironing board, notches in the sides, the adjacent end of the and a notched upright in the frame to reironing board being designed to engage said ceive the supporting brace.
