Description
@initrd gltten WILLIAM KEGG', 0F LAssELLsVILLE, NEW YORK.'
Letters-Patent No. 95,023, dated September 21, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT 1N OPERATING" cHURN-DASHBRS.
The Schedule referred to ih these Letters Patent and making part of the seme.
To all whom it may concern- Be it known that I,W1LLIAM Knee, of Lassellsville,in the county of Fulton, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Operating Gllurn-Dashers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, referencegbeing had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
`This invention relates to an improvement in the method of operating the dashers for butter-churnsot1 the old style, or where the dasher' is' attached. to a rod,- or staff, and given a vertical reciprocating motion, by hand or by means o f any other suitable motive power; and consists in providing for givingthe staff of the dasher a perpendicular motion, when the same is attached to and operated by means of a lever, as hereinafter more fully described. v
The accompanyingdrawing represents a side elevation ofthe device, with the staii of the dash attached.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondingr parts.
A represents'the outline of the churn.
B, the churn-dash stati.
C is the lever. l
D is a stand, which ismade fast to the side of the .chui-n, a's represented in the drawing.
E is an oscillating rod, which `isjointed tothe stand D at F, and to the end of the lever at G.
The dasher-staii is connected with the lever by means of the tubular piece H, `which is connected with the piece J, which passes through a mortise in the lever, wllere it is fastened by a pin, or bolt, as seen at I.
The tube II (enclosing the staff) is fastened to the 'piece J by a thumb-nut, and' isy so arranged that the l staff which would be entirely inadmissible on accountJ ofthe friction which would be produced by vthe dasher against the sides of the churn, and by the staiiwhere it passes through the head of the churn.
To overcome this diiiicnlty, I conue the lever to the circle K, on the stand I), by means of the slotted button L, which button passes into a'reoess in the lever, and turns therein as the lever moves up and the vibrating fulcrnm G and the lever G, constucted,-
arranged, and operatingsubstantially as and for the purposes set forth.
The above specication of my invention signed by me, this 10th day of June, 1869.
r WM. KEGG. Witnesses FRANK BLocKLnY, ALEX. F. ROBERTS.
