no'oa mm on BELL.
BeIit known that I, WILLIAM R. Moore, a
-- citizen of'the United States, residing at .East Orange, in the coimty of Essex and State of New J ersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Door Buzzers or Bells, of which the following is a specifiwtion.
My invention-relates that class of bells commonly known as; buzzers and the inventionhaS for its objectto provide means for communicatingwith others by sound from those occupying rooms-in hotels, &c.
' inner side of said door b With these and other objects, in view the invention consists -1Il the 1 novel construction and combination-of parts as will be hereinafter more in detail described, and the asserted novelty distinctly claimed.
I have fully and clearly illustrated my invention in the-accompanying drawings in which;
Figure 1 represents a seetionalelevation of my device as applied to a portion of a door, and Fig. 2 is a plan .view thereof. Fig. 3 is a detached view of a slotted loop which holds in operative engagement the spiral or worm.
' Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings; A designates a portion of a door having an'opening a formed therethrough. B designates a flanged circular base plate securedto the means of screws 1), I), this plate being prov1dedwith an opening C formed in alinement with the opening in the portion of the door.
D designates a push-button rod having a flanged push-button d secured upon its outer I end, the flanged portion at of which when in its normal position bears a inst the inner flange e of a thimble F let within the opening a in the door portion A, the outer flange of the thimble bearing against the door portion and encircling the push-button d. The
inner end of this push-button rod D is passed through the opening a in the. door portion and also through the opening C in the circular flanged plate B and having a head 0 thereon for holding it in engagement with a loop' for a purpose which will be hereinafter explained.
F desi nates a horizontally disposed plate provided with flanges F and F at each .end, said flanges extending in opposite specification a Lettersratent. lApplication iiled December 23, 1908. Serial No. 469,029.

directions, the inner one of said flan! ?S being secured to the base-plate.
G designates a short 'rodhaving itsfor I ward end secured to the flanged circular base plate B and itsrear end securedto the rear angular portion of the horizontally disposed plate F.
H designates a strip of metal having its end turned back upon itself and forming .a loop h, 'saidloop having perforations h and 71. therein and in alinement with each other, and through which the short rod G is passed and upon which the loop h is operatively engaged traversing the rod back and forth. 7'
I designates. a coiled spring, one endof which engages the loop h,- its opposite end bearing against the outer flange-of the plate F. lhe end of the bent back portion of stri H' is bifurcated to receive therein a s iral or worm J which is in operative engagement, therewith,- an opening j being formed in the rear angular portion of the horizontal angular plate F through which the spiral or worm is passed.
K designates an angular arm of metal having an opening is formed centrally therethrough midway its length, the ends of said arm terminating in U-shaped loops within which are journaled rollers or wheels L, the
rear end of the spiral or worm having a nut or washer Z thereon, thus securing bymeans of a pin l the angular arm K upon the rear end of said spiral or worm.
M designates a bellprovided with a inultiple number of indentations in circular series upon the outer surface and upoir'thc inner 'snrface protnberances, and when the bell i secured to the circular flanged plate and in its closed or nornial position the wheels through the medium of the mechanism contact with these protuberanccs and produce a buzzing sound similar to those bells electrically operated. The bell is detachably securedflto the circular base plate by lugs or any suitable fastening means.
My device is always ready for use, never in the way, occupying but little space, does -f not get out of order, and dispenses with the usual hammers, the wheels producing an electrical imitation giving eighty four strokes upon the bell at each push of the button.
The operation of my device will be obvious when taken in connection with the ac- I byLetters Patent is;
companying drawings, and further descrip? tion hereof 'is deemed unnecessary. I What 1"0131111 as new and desire to secure 1..The combination'with the door, a circ'ularfl'an' ed base-plate secured to the door, passed throulgh'openings formed l in said door'and base-p a push-r ate, of a. horizontal plateprovided with a flange at each end thereo the flanges extending in opposite directions'the inner .of, said flanges being se- .cure d to the base-plate, a short rod having one end'secure'd to the base-plate and the opposite end totheouter 1 flange a'metal cured to the loop member and the opposite end to the inner face of said'outer flange, a
spiral rod rotatably secured in the base-.'
late and taking in the bifurcations formed in the loop member, and its rear end passed through an openingformed in said outer flange, an angular am having an opening the rear end, of .the' spira rod is passed and formed midway its .len th through which operatively secured to the outer flange of the horizontal plate, the. outer ends of 'said an.- ular arm terminating inforwardly roecting U-shaped 100 s, wheels journale in said loops, and a be :with indentations and outer surfaces in circular series over the latter of which the wheels travel.
2. The combination with the door, a flanged circular 'baseplate secured to the door, a push-button rod awed through openings formed in' said plate, a horizontal .plate rovided with a flange, at each end -thereo the flanges extending in o posite directions, theinner'of said flanges eing secured to the base-plate, a'short rod having one end secured to the, base-plate and the opposite end to the outer flange, of'a metal'strip bent back upon itself and form' a loop member provided with alinedopenmgs through which the push-rod passes, the said push-rod being secured to said loop member, a bifurcation formed in each end of said loop member, a spring having one end secured to the loop member and the o iposite end to the inner face of said outer ange, a spiral rod rotatably secured in the base-plate and taking in the bifurcations formed in the loop member, and its rear end passed through an opening formed in said' outer flange, striking mechanism mounted upon the end of said spiral rod, and a bell mounted upon said base-plate.
'In testimony whereof I aflix my signature ,in presence of two witnesses. 2'
