A. G. PAPPADAKIS KNOB ALARM Filed July 7 1922 Patented 2 2, 119230 ANDB'U G. PAPPADAKIS,
OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
KNOB ALARII'I.
Application filed July 7,
To all whom it may concern Be'it known that 1, Amino G. Piirrnniikis,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of lVayne and State of h licliigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knob Alarms, of which the following is a specification, reference being hadthcrcin to the accompany ing drawings.
This invention relates to a knob alarm and it is the principal object thereof to provide a device that will sound an alarm at each rotary movement of the knob.
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and at the same time one that will be effective for the purpose for which it is designed.
These objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear from the follow ing specification and claim.
In the drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views, wherein;
Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved device with a portion of the escutcheon plate with which it is connected; and
Figure 2- is a fragmentary plan view thereof.
Referring to the drawings 10 designates a portion of a door, 11 the escutcheon plate upon one side of the door. 12 the escunchcon plate upon the opposite side thereof, 13 the mob spindle which is rectangular in cross section as usual, although not necessarily limited to such shape, and 1 1 and 1.5 the door knobs which are mounted upon the op poeite side thereof.
My invention contemplates the use of a bell 16 or similar device which may be attached to one of the escutcheon plates as shown in the drawing, and lie within a recess 1'? in the door 10, or it may be mounted in the locker latch with which the knob spindle is associated, or may be mounted in 1922. Serial No. 573,319.
any other convenient manner provided it is in its proper position relative to the knob splndle.
The bell 16 as shown herein is of a conventional type and requires no detailed description, being operated through a pinion 18 in a well known manner. This pinion is actuated through a sector 19 which is mounted upon the spindle 13 and the teeth of which mesh into those of the pinion 18.
Rotation of the knobs 14: and 15 even to a very limited degree imparts rotary movement to the sector 19 and through it the pinion 18 and the bell mechanism, thus sounding the alarm and accomplishing one of the principal objects of my invention.
In some knob mechanisms one of the knobs may be rotated without imparting motion to the other. In which case the sector 19 of my invention may be directely associated with either one of the knobs so that rotation of one knob only will sound the alarm.
Minor changes and alterations may be made within my invention, aside from those herein suggested, and I would therefore have it understood that I d not limit myself to the exact construction herein shown and described, but claim all that falls fairly within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
What l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a device of the character described. the combination with a knob spindle; of an alarm mechanism, having a pinion to receive the power for operating the same; means comprising a toothed sector, having an opening'through which the said spindle projects, and engaging; the pinion whereby rotary movement of said spindle is transmitted to said pinion.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto affixed my signature.
ANDRU G. PAPPADAILCIS.
