ENVELOP-MOISTENER.
To all whom it 'may concern.'
Be it known that we, ULYssEs JORDAN and FoEREs'r CARPENTER, citizens of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, havc invented new and useful Improvements in Envelop-Moisteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in envelop and stamp moisteners consisting of a receptacle having a casing attached thereto, a cup connected to the casing, absorbent material carried by the cup and a fiber cover attached to the casing by means of a spring band.
Another obj ectof the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction, eiicient in practice and one which can be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
Vith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the parts comprising the moistener assembled for use. Fig. 2 is a p lan view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 designates a reservoir having an air vent 2. Secured to the mouth of the receptacle 1, is a casing 3. The body 4 of the casing is provided with side walls 5 and a bottom wall 6 having a central opening 7. A portion of the bottom 6 adjacent the opening is bent to form a depending angular threaded flange 8. Secured to the mouth of the reservoir 1, is a threaded collar 9 adapted to receive the threaded flange 8 for applying the body portion of the casing to the receptacle. Depending from the body of the casing is a cylindrical sponge cup 10 having its upper end formed with screw threads and adapted to be attached to the angular threaded flange 8. Seated in the cup l0 is the absorbent material or sponge 1l. The absorbent material is prevented from becoming displaced from the moistener by means of ay cover l2, said cover being applied in the groove 13, formed in the side wall 4, by means of an annular spring band 14, provided with thumb depressions 15, for conveniently removing or turning the band to any desired position.
The cup 10 is provided with a central open- Speeification of Letters Patent.

ing 16 formed Ain the bottom thereof to permit the liquid in the vessel to thoroughly saturate the absorbent material.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and mode of operation of the invention should be clearly understood without a further extended description.
Changes in form, proportions and minor details of construction may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
Having described the invention what is claimed as new is 1. A moistener comprising a reservoir having an opening, a threaded collar surrounding said opening, a casing connected to the collar, a sponge cup connected to a portion of the casing, a cover, and means for' connecting the cover to a portion of the casing.
2. A moistener comprising a reservoir having an opening, a threaded collar surrounding the opening, a casing having a threaded portion adapted to engage the threaded collar, a sponge cup having a threaded portion adapted to engage the threaded portion of the casing, a cover, and means for connecting the cover to a portion of the casing.
3. A moistener comprising a reservoir having an opening, a threaded collar surrounding the opening, a casing having a threaded portion adapted to engage the threaded collar, a sponge cup having a threaded portion adapted to engage the threaded portion of the casing, a cover, and resilient means for connecting the cover to a portion of the casing.
4. A moistener comprising a reservoir having an opening, a threaded collar secured within said opening, a casing having threaded engagement with the collar, a sponge cup having an opening in the bottom thereof and connected to the casing, and a. cover for the casing.
In testimony whereof we aiiix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
