SHEET ORLEAF HOLDER.
APPLIOATION FILED MAY 1, 1907.

SHEET OR LEAF HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 1, 1907.
Patented Feb. 22, 1910.
Serial No. 371,207.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN T. HICKS, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing in Medforcl, Middlesex county, State of Massachusetts, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Sheet or Leaf Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to apparatus for holding and protecting one or more loose leaves or sheets of paper of large area.
The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention.
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the complete device; Fig. 2 is a side elevation; Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the wedge; Fig. 4 1s a central longitudinal section.
a is the backing which may be a board or the top of a table; 8 shows the series of separate, superposed sheets; I) is a resilient strip of metal, preferably steel; under each end there are projections 0, screws (Z pass through the ends and enter the backing a, this causes the strip to bow or assume an arc shape, a point midway the ends being highest. The strip is perforated at the center to receive a screw 6 which enters the backing at a slight angle as shown in Fig. 2; a wedge 'w has an elongated slot 71., in width about equal to the diameter of the screw 6. The upper side of the wedge w is inclined and there is a fixed projectlon f on the upper surface of the strip 12; the diameter of the projection f is about equal to the breadth of the slot 71., the distance between the projection j and the screw 6 is something less than one-half the length of the slot h in the wedge w. The sheets 8 are superposed and placed on the backing a with their edges under the strip 6,- the strip 1) is then clamped down upon the sheets by forcing the wedge along in a straight line under the head of the screw 6.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a sheet holding device the combination of a strip of resilient material, a rigid backboard, holding devices at the extreme terminals of the strip uniting it with the board, projections under each end of the strip, a holding device securing the center of the strip to the backboard and a wedge located on the strip to adjust the position thereof.
2. In a sheet holding device the combination of a strip of resilient material, a rigid backboard, projections on said strip at the under side of each end thereof, screws passing through said perforations at each end of the strip uniting the strip with the board, a wedge with an elongated slot, and a screw passing through said slot, then through a perforation at the center of the strip and entering .the backboard.
3. In a sheet holding device the combination of a strip of spring steel, a rigid backboard, blocks fixed to the under side of said strip at each end thereof, screws passing through perforations at each end of said strip adjustably uniting the strip with the board, a wedge with an elongated slot, a pro jection in said slot fixed to the upper side of said strip, and a screw passing through said slot and through a perforation in said strip uniting said strip with said backboard.
4. In a sheet holding device the combination of a suitable backboard, a strip of resilient material located at the edge of the board, screws at the extreme terminals of the strip uniting it with the board, means for spacing each end of the strip from the board, a holding device securing the strip to the backboard at or near the center and a slotted wedge at the center of the strip.
5. In a sheet holding device the combination of a suitable backboard, a strip of resilient material located at the edge of the board, means at the extreme terminals of the strip for uniting the strip with the board, devices for spacing each end of the strip from the board and means at the center of the strip for bending the center of the strip toward the board and thus clamping the strip to the board.
