Description

J. P. RUBY. SKELETON STOVE LID.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 2, 1909.
Patented Feb. 22,1910.
DVVENTOR Jofm d R BYMJJW WITNESSES:
A TTORNE YS JOHN F. RUBY, OF CANTON, OHIO.
SKELETON STOVE-LID.
Application filed February 2,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN F. RUBY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skeleton Stove-Lids; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making apart of this specification, and to the numerals of reference marked thereon, in which Figure l is a perspective view of the lid. Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on line 11, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on a line parallel with the parallel bars.
The present invention has relation to skeleton stove lids, and it consists in the novel arrangement hereafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing.
In the accompanying drawing, 1 represents the ring of the lid, which is formed of a size to correspond with the size of the lid designed to be constructed. The ring 1 is provided with the outer flanges 2 and the spaced parallel bars 3, said flanges and bars being located substantially as shown in Fig. l.
The lid is especially designed for use in connection with gas or gasolene stoves and the purpose of the invention is to provide a lid adapted to permit the flame to strike directly against the bottom of the vessel or pther article designed to be placed upon the The parallel bars 3 are for the double purpose of providing supports for the vessel designed to be placed upon the lid and in addition to confine the flame and assist in causing the flame to move directly upward and in proper contact with the vessel. By providing the bars 3 and locating them as shown the flame will bring the parallel bars 3 to a high degree of heat so that the bars will within themselves when brought to a high degree of heat throw ofi the stored heat which is transmitted to the bottom of the vessel.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 22, 1910. 1909. Serial No. 475,585.
The flanges 2 serve as supporting flanges for the vessel, thereby, increasing the surface of the lid proper.
It is well understood that more or less twisting and warping of the top plates of stoves takes place, owing to the alternating expansion and contraction of the metal and in time the top plate of the stove becomes so warped that difficulty is experienced in maintaining the lid in a true horizontal position. In order to provide a lid that can be held in a true horizontal plane regardless of the warped or twisted condition of the stove plate within certain limits the lid is provided with the adjustable supporting screws at, by means of which the lid can be leveled up and supported upon the lower or contact ends of the supporting screws.
For the purpose of providing proper ventilation for combustion the parallel bars and the outer flanges 2 are so formed that their upper faces or surfaces will be a short distance above the upper surface of the ring, thereby providing air intake spaces upon opposite sides of the ring.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an improved article of manufacture, a skeleton stove lid, consisting of a ring, integral flanges located upon the ring, and dia metrically opposite each other, parallel bars spaced from each other and from the flanges, the faces of the bars and the faces of the flanges located in a plane above the plane of the face of the ring and the ring provided with independently adjustable supports, said supports adapted to rest upon the fixed stove plate adjacent the opening for the lid and adapted to support said lid, substan tially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above, I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN F. RUBY.
