EMIL LOUIS BOERNER, OF IOWA CITY, IOWA.
DEVICE FOR COOLING AND DISPENSING BEVERAGES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 11, 1908.
Patented Feb. 15, 1910.
Serial No. 447,955.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL LOUIS Bonunnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Iowa City, in the county of Johnson and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Cooling and Dispensing Beverages; and I l do hereby declare the following to be a full, l clear, and exact description of the invention, t such as will enable others skilled in the art 1 to which it appertains to make and use the same. i
My invention relates to cooling and disl pensing beverages, has for its object thel storage of the beverage in large quantity and its thorough cooling while being dispensed, and the invention consists in certain improvements in construction, which will be fully disclosed in the following specification and claim.
In the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification :-I igure 1 represents a vertical transverse section oi a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 a top plan view with the cover removed. Fig. 3 an enlarged sectional detail showing the construction of the base with the outer, and the inner receptacles resting thereon, and Fig. 4 a like view showing the connection between the bottom of the inner recep- @616 and one end of the coil of pipe. l
Reference being had to the drawings and the designating characters thereon, the nut meral 1 indicates the body of the outer rcceptacle, shown as being composed of an} inner and an outer wall of sheet metal 3, 2, y with a filling 1, of suitable non-heat-coni ducting material, such as granulated cork, saw-dust or the like, between them, and resting in an annular groove 5 in the base 6, with suitable packing 7 interposed to prevent leakage, and is secured to the base by screws 8.
9 indicates a cover for the outer receptacle, which may be made of wood, with a lining 10 of sheet metal, such as zinc, or the cover may be made in any preferred man- I nor, such as sheet metal with a filling ot' a suitable non-conducting material.
11, 11 are handles properly secured to the body 1.
The base 6 is provided with a seat 12, preferably conical, as shown in transverse section, and forms the bottom of the outer receptacle and supports the conical volute coil of pipe 18, through which the beverage is discharged.
14L is the inner or beverage receptacle of less diameter than the inside of the body 1 of the outer receptacle, to form a water chamber 15 around the beverage receptacle, and said receptacle is preferably semi-cylindrical in transverse section, having a vertical transverse wall 16, which affords an ice chamber 17 of large capacity within the outer receptacle. The bottom 18 of the receptacle I L converges or is inclined toward its center, as shown in Fig. 1, to insure drainage of the receptacle and discharges its contents into the coil 13, below the bottom 18, and from which it is discharged through a faucet 19. The receptacle 14- is provided with a cover 1-1 and the receptacle is preferably made of porcelain or earthenware, or of metal porcelain lined.
20 indicates a chamber below the bottom 18, in which the coil 18 is located and where it issubjected to the lowest temperature of the cooling medium, so that the beverage is discharged from the faucet at the lowest temperature attainable in the cooler. The coil 13 is secured to the bottom 18, by a nut '21, with a packing 22 interposed between it and the bottom, and on the lower side of the bottom is a collar 23 and a packing 24.
25 indicates a wire screen above the coil 13 to protect it from injury from pieces of ice falling on it in filling the chamber 17 26 indicates a faucet for drawing oil' water from the chamber surrounding the inner receptacle.
Changes may be made in the form and proportions of the apparatus without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is- A device for cooling and dispensing beverages, comprising an outer receptacle whose wall is provided with a filling of non-conducting material, a base having a concentric groove in which said receptacle rests, and a conical pipe seat or support, an inner concentrically arranged semi-cylindrical receptacle of slightly less diameter than the interior of the outer receptacle, a conical volute coil of pipe communicating with the bottom of the inner receptacle, resting on said seat and terminating in a discharge 10 faucet, and a chamber between the bottom of the inner receptacle and the pipe support. In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
