To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRY J. BELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Leominster, in the county of \Vorcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Card and Garment Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to identification tags adapted to be attached to a garment so as to display in a conspicuous manner a card bearing the name of the owner and also to provide means for suspending from the tag a hat-or other articles of wearing apparel so that there will be no chance of the same being taken through mistake.

In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above it is contemplated employing a tag the body portion of which is arranged to detachably receive a card or name plate, said body being provided with oppositely projecting arms one of which is adapted for detachable engagement with the collar or other part of a coat or other garment, the other arm or arms being adapted for detachable engagement with a hat, overshoes, and the like, so that the same may be retained with the coat and properly identified by the card or name plate carried by the tag body.

The essential features of the invention involved in the practical applicationv of the invention are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, but certain preferred and practical embodiments thereof are shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a plan view of the tag as stamped from a piece of sheet metal. Fig. 2 is a similar View of the completed tag showing its practical application. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 8-3, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 44, Fig. 2. Fig. 5' is a view similar to Fig. 2 but showing the tag provided with two suspending gripping arms.

The improved identification tag is preferably formed from a single piece of thin sheet metal and is provided with an elongated body portion 1 having a slit 2 formed adjacent to each end which may be of angular formation to permit the material to be flexed outwardly and form a spring tongue 3 adjacent to each end. The intermediate portion of said body is provided with two oppositely located clips 4: which are made by slitting the said body and upturning the same and thereby provide side guides and holders for the sides of a card or name plate 5 the ends of which are passed through the slitted portion of the ends of the body 1 and held in contact with the underside of the body by means of the spring tongues 3. An arm projects from each side or edge of the body, said arms being designated by the numerals 6 and 7 respectively and being centrally located relative to said body. The ends of the said arms may be serrated, as indicated at 8 if desired, and their edges adjacent to their serrated edges are provided with oppositely disposed outstanding rounded portions 9 having an opening 10 formed through them, said outstanding portions 9 being turned at right angles to their arm to provide pivot ears for the reception of a pivot pin 11 upon which is mounted a movable member of a clasp, as designated at 12 and whose front edge is retained in contact with the serrated edge or end of the arms by means of a spring 13 coiled about said pivot pin and bearing upon the underside of the heel or handhold 14 of the movable clasp member.

In Fig. 5 the same general type of suspending arms are employed as described in connection with the preferred construction, but said arms, which are designated by the numerals 15 and 16 are preferably arranged in divergent relation.

From the foregoing it will be seen that in all of the described forms of the invention the body and the arms are formed from a single piece of material which may be shaped, slitted, andpunched by a single operation of a suitable machine, after which the arms may be readily arranged for the attachment thereto of the movable member of the clasps, thereby providing a simple and eflicient device, which may be produced at a small cost, and which will retain the various articles of wearing apparel in a compact condition with the mark of ownership thereof displayed in a conspicuous manner.

While in the foregoing the invention has been described and illustrated in one form with one suspending arm and in another form with two suspending arms, it is to be understood that such arrangement of arms may be greatly Varied, and if necessary or desirable the body might be enlarged and provided with more arms.

hat I claim as my invention is A device of the character described comprising an elongated body having its intermediate portion provided with oppositely disposed integral holding clips and its ends slitted to provide spring tongues whereby an identification card may be held thereon, l0 arms projecting from opposite sides of said body said arms being provided with clasps.
