To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, Lewis Anvnnson, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Worth, in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Walking-Sticks, of which the following is a specification.

ll fy invention relates to a new article of manufacture, and the object is to provide a unique walking stick which will be both useful. and a source of amusement.

Other objects and advantages will be fully explained in the following description and the invention will. be more particularly pointed out in the claim.

Reference is had to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application.

Figure l is a side elevation of a walking cane, constructed in accordance with my invention. F ig. 2 is a side elevation of a part of a walking stick, showing a variation in the construction.

Similar characters of reference are used to indicate the same parts throughout the several views.

The walking stick is preferably constructed of steel. wire. The wire for making the stick is first bent or spiraled by a machine for making spirals of wire. A portion of the spiraled wire twice the length intended for the stick is cut. This piece of Wire is then bent upon itself and the two parts meshed together. A handle 1 may be formed at the upper part. One leg 2 of the wire is then cut at 3. The part 2 may then be screwed up and down on the partt.

The stick is shown broken for convenience in illustrating the invention. The stick so constructed makes a convenient and useful stick.

The stick is made an object of amusement by painting the legs of ditl'erent colors. The effect of one leg being one color and the other of a diiferent color makes the stick useful for foot-ball rooters and for base ball fans. Different teams can have sticks bearing the colors of the clubs or teams. An appearance of running a stick into a person can be created by screwing the loose log out as far as it can be screwed without coming olf and then pressing the end against a person. and pressing on the handle. By making the ends 5 and 6 of the different legs straight or approximately straight for a short distance from the ends, a lock is made so that when the loose leg is screwed down until its straight portion reaches the straight portion of the fixed leg it cannot be screwed farther on the fixed portion, but the loose leg can be screwed back to its normal position and the loose leg will run up and down the fixed leg by gravity simply by changing ends of the stick, that is, turning first one end down and then the other end down.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-

A walking stick comprising a fixed leg, a handle integral therewith said fixed leg being constructed of spiral wire, a loose leg of spiral wire meshing 'with and movable on said fixed leg. and a lock for preventing said leg from coming apart consisting of an approximately straight portion formed on the lower end of the fixed leg and an approximately straight portion formed on the upper end of the movable leg.
