POWDER-BOX,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented not. it, into.
Application filed August 28, 1907. $eria1 No. 390,490.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, WALTER H. PERKINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have" invented a new and useful Improvement in Powder Boxes; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the clfaracters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
l igure 1 a perspective view of the upper portion of a powder box constructed in ac cordance with my invention and shown with the cover open. Fig. 2 a side View of the same, with the cover closed. Fig. 3 a. rear view of the same with the cover closed.
My invention reiates to an improved box .t'or toilet, tooth and other powders, the object being to produce a simple and compact box constructed with particular reference to convenience of operation and non-liability to derangement.
lVith these ends in view my invention con sists in a powder-box having certain details of construction as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In carrying out my invention as herein shown, the elliptical box :2 is furnished with a top having a flanged elliptical body 2 formed with a neck 3 furnished with an in-' tcgralcl'osure 4c having perforations 5 and encircled by a circumferential groove 6 located adjacent to the said closure :L With this construction I employ a flanged sheetmetal cover 7 adaptcd in size to lit snugly over-the neck 3 so as to close the perforations 5 in the closure 4 thereot, the sald cover being furnished with an integral finger depending from its flange and bent to torln a knuckle 9 receiving a pintle 10 in the shape of a short @1008 of wire for which a portion of the circumferential groove 6 forms a seat as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The wire 10 is soldered or otherwise secured in place. At a mint opposite the knuckle 9, the cover 7 is termed with a spring'finger 8 lepending from its flange and adapted to be snapped into the groove 6, which in this way is made not only to stitl'en the neck 3 and give the top an ornan'iental appearance, but also to provide just the scat required for the pintle 10 of the knuckle 9 and just the recess required for the spring-finger 8 to snap into without the projection ot the knuckle 9' 01" finger 8 unduly beyond the vertical face of the neck 3 or cover 7.
I claim. 2-
As a new article ofmanufacture, a powder-box having a neck furnished with an integral perforated closure and encircled by a circumferential groove located adjacent to the said closure, a flanged cover adapted to fit over the said neck so as to inclose the perforated closure thereof and having a s ringfinger depending from its flange an constructed to snap into the said groove for holding the cover in its closed position and provided at a point opposite the said depending spring-linger with a leaf-like knuckle also dependin from its said flange; and a short length 0 wire set/into the said groove and fastened therein, the central portion of the wire passing through the said knuckle and thus forming a hin 'e for the cover, whereby the said groove orms a recess for thespring-tinger to snap into and a seat for the pintle of the hinge.
In testimony whereof, I have signedthis specification in the presence of two subscrib ing witnesses.
