SMOKER S ARTICLE.
Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 25, 1910.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN It. RING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shel burn, in the county of Sullivan, State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Smokers Articles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to devices for smokers and has special reference to an improved form of pipe filler together with a match receptacle arranged to coact therewith.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a tubiform pipe filler adapted to have a tubiform pouch secured thereto and provided with a novel arrangement of match safe which coacts therewith.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in general of certain novel details of arrangement and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically set forth in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and z-Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved pipe filler with a t0- bacco pouch applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the tobacco pouch removed. Fig. 3 is a top plan viewthereof.
The numeral 10 indicates the body of a pipe filler and this body comprises a segmento-cylindrical portion provided at the bottom with an outwardly extending flange 11 and having a flattened side which forms one side of a match receptacle 12 the lower end whereof is in spaced relation to the fiange while the upper end is provided with a iange closure 13 which lies fiush with the upper end of the body of the filler.
The body portion 10 is provided with a lid 14 so that the contents of the bag may not escape when the bag and filler are carried in a persons pocket.
In using this device the bottom is opened and the flanged end of the filler inserted in the neck and the draw string pulled tight. By reason of the bottom of the match boX being in spaced relation to this fianged end it is thus possible to completely surround the oblique top with the neck of the pouch while at the same time the match box bottom acts as a stop to prevent the pouch slipping down the top when the device is in verted. After the pouch has been positioned the" device is inverted and a portion of the contents of the pouch poured out into the bowl of the pipe. When sufficient tobacco has been put in the bowl the end of the filler is closed by placing the thumb thereover and the fiush end of the match box is used to tamp the tobacco in the pipe.
There has thus been provided a simple and useful device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. In a device of the kind described, the combination of a tubiform member provided with a flange around one end thereof; vwith an article receptacle fixed upon the side of the tubiform member and provided with a bottom in spaced relation to the flange, and a top flush with the end of the tubform member opposite the flange.
2. In a device of the kind described, the combination with a tubiform member having a segmento-cylindrical body portion provided with a flange around one end thereof; of an article receptacle formed on the fiat portion of the body and having one end in spaced relation to and adjacent the flange, and the opposite end flush with the end of the tubiform member opposite said flange.
In testimonl whereof, `I aiiiX my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
JOI-IN R. RING.
